Defences definitely on top. Its also quite obvious that they don't have the pedantic obstruction rule. Although Thaiday's try was ruled out for knock on it wouldn't have got that far here as he would have been pulled for obstruction as he received ball directly behind his own man.

| Outstanding. That wasn't a poor quality game (apart from about 15 mins), it was 2 teams battling hard to get on top physically, no holds barred. A few mistakes, yes, but not more than any other game. Just because the ball wasn't really flung about until later in the game doesn't mean it was poor quality, neither team was in the ascendancy or had much opportunity and both were still looking for an inch of dominance.
Several obstruction calls could have been given but quite rightly allowed to play on. Being half an inch behind your man when receiving is not the same as actually obstructing the defender. That said, lots of stuff went on that would lead to RLFans meltdown, RFL twitter abuse, lynching of referees, etc in SL. Played in the right spirit with the right amount of leniancy imo.
Great result, great game, well deserved.
Pretty certain that kick brushed Woods' chest - not that he'll ever admit it.
Does Cam Smith ever stop moaning??

| Personally thought it was a terrible game and mainly because Queensland tried to outmuscle NSW to prove a point after the 1st game. The fact a winger could play for 60 minutes with no movement in his right shoulder showed how poor it was.

| I enjoyed the game, watching with mainly Maroons. As I said to them at the end. Normal service has been resumed.

| That wasn't a sport I recognised; the liberal application of the rules around dangerous contact, laying on and wrestling in the ptb has been allowed to reach a ridiculous level in SoO.
80 minutes of niggle, cheating and running fights, with very little skill on show; disappointing.

Did you not watch the 2012 series? The NRL has had far more problems with interpretation of the obstruction law than ourselves in recent years.
Awful game. If we had that here there would be a ten page thread with people hyperventilating left, right and centre. But if Channel 9 tells people something is a great game enough times most people end up nodding along.

| Dour game. Just because its origin doesn't make it great. Some woeful errors, some poor niggly play. Disappointing. Said it before too, JT is way overrated

| Sorry, not buying this.
So what made it awful? Few line breaks? No superman tries at the corner? No 60-metre GI classics? No Thurston super passes? No flick passes? The fact defences were on top?
Rubbish. That was a brutal example of one team determined to batter the other into submission, but meeting their match, with two sets of absolutely fantastic defences and personalities going hell for leather.
An 8 year record at stake, players battling through injury across the park, some astounding individual performances (Gallen!), hard running again and again against lethal lines of defence, some amazing goal line tackles, never more than a 4 point margin, NSW behind for 70 minutes, Queensland utterly desperate not to be the team that lost SoO - and yes, rough, tough, niggly and sometimes downright dirty moments, and a bit of handbags to boot. Fantastic. Give me more of that. I don't need a plethora of flashy attacking play to make a game, I can appreciate the war that went on out there today and the great skill, fitness and mental toughness required for 80 minutes of defence like that. But then I'm not 12.
As one of the commentators said to a couple of the ex-players co-commentating, "this is bit like back in your day". Couldn't agree more. Apart from one dull spell, it was gripping stuff, a close scoreline that could be reversed at any moment. Fair enough, not the fastest or most sensational of games, but edge of the seat nevertheless. And I doubt any SL team could have survived out there.
Before I get called an NRL fanboy, there are plenty of dull NRL and SoO games, and SL games for that matter.
If you prefer nothing but sterilised, perfectly behaved players, clean textbook tackles and a procession of tries to enjoy your RL, fair enough. Good luck in your GCSEs.

Yes and if you want put that in to the context it was meant you would end up saying because of all the dirty niggly play. When Ray Warren and especially Gus Gould say this a poor game live on national television you know it was poor! At one point Gould even said after hayne ran horizontal across the pitched "hey a game of rugby league might break out here" or Johns and lockyer looking for excuses and saying that bird and Gallen are trying so hard they are taking to much ball away from the half backs.
Just because you like niggle (so do i) most people don't and that was far to much for me yesterday it was basically two forward packs running and the backs scooting. Maybe you need to re watch and don't watch the pre match hype. The only thing that would have sorted that out yesterday would have been a punch up and then all the niggle would have stopped. Origin quality has been on a steady decline, the 1st game of the series was the best game for a couple of years.
