Watching Wigan v Wire and these type of games with close finishes really attract the punter to the game, so why not change the conversion law to give the option to the side scoring a try whether they take time off the clock to take the kick. I have been to many games where one side is winning by 10 points with 2 mins to go and the game as gone because the clock will be run down. If there are 12 tries in a game, 12 minutes is taken away from the game to watch a bloody kick. On the opposite side of the coin if a side winning by 4 points score a try in 78 minutes then they can allow the clock to run its course, as a reward of scoring a try. What do you think???

Think your missing the point, you can gain 2 points without taking time off the clock. 10 points down with 2 mins to play, score a try and kick conversion you will have 2 mins to score a try/conversion and win the game. Even when they decline the kick the clock doesn't stop immediately. In your case 8 points down with 2 mins to play, score a try lose 30 seconds and you have 90 seconds to score a try/conversion to draw the game. Thread open.

the scoring team as the option to let the clock run or stop it immediately. This means a team which is losing, gains more time to force a result is my thinking. I enjoy watching sport with a nail biting ending, where players are put under pressure to gain the result and the clutch players come to the fore and create more theatre. People always remember Wide to West (Saints v Bradford) You also get the bonus of watching more rugby, rather than watching a minute taken up kicking a goal as per rugby union!!!

No matter how quick the kicker is, time is only stopped when the TJ's get to the opposite corner flag.

I think it should be the clock is stopped as soon as the try is scored and is not restarted until the conceding team kicks off. However, there should be a kick clock. Once the ref and touch judges are in position, the kicker has 60 seconds to take his kick. If he hasn't taken the kick in that time the scoring team lose the chance of the conversion.

I think it is still in the rules that a conversion does not have to be a place kick it can be a drop kick to make it quicker and you still get the two points.

Not sure on the drop kick rule, but tj's still need to get in position and get down to other end of the field.

i thought the reason for doing it is because the ref can give it himself without the TJs.

I've never understood why the clock runs down 1 minute at a kick off. IMO the clock should stop when the try is scored, begin again when the ball is placed on the tee and then stopped when it has stopped travelling to the goal. Time should then stop again until the ball is back in play from the kick off.
