If Cameron Smith doesn't win it, then it's a disgrace. He won the RLIF award, and he should win this one.

By the way, in the 4 years the RLIF award has been going they've had 3 alternative winners to the Golden Boot.

2009 - Jarryd Hayne
2010 - Todd Carney
2011 - Billy Slater

Nah, it should go to Kevin Sinfield. Not missing a single kick in the playoffs was special enough let alone his grand final performance and elevation to England captain.

I'll now prepare myself for the usual responses... icon_cheers.gif

As much as I would love either Englishman nominated to win the Golden Boot, I think to give a reason of not missing a goal kick in a playoff series is digging a bit too deep for a justification.

The sad fact is, internationally we played against 2 nations who are nowhere near competetive enough on the big stage and therefore anybody who played for England in that series could have possibly been considered.

IMO over the course of the season, Tomkins has been consistently better than Sinfield and therefore is more deserving of the 2, although overall Cam Smith has been phenomenal and probably the most deserving, and his leadership of Melbourne & Queensland has been as good as anybody else in World RL.

Logic aside however, still hoping an Englishman gets it icon_thumb.gif

The main reason for this in those three years is that the RLIF award recognises performances from October to October. So when Jarryd Hayne won it, his performances in the 2009 4N Final didn't come into it. It was for what he did in the 2008 World Cup and the 2009 NRL & State of Origin.

The Golden Boot is January to December.

I was aware that the RLIF award is given out earlier, well that just means that the Golden Boot voters are naturally scewed towards the end of the year too much, as we all know people are more likely to vote for people who are fresher in their minds.

The RLIF award has more credibility IMO. Can you imagine the winner of the Baseball player of the year given to a guy who played in the Japanese League, and not in the MLB? It just wouldn't happen, so I find it extremely difficult to accept a non NRL player as the winner of the Golden Boot. YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE NRL TO PROVE YOURSELF. And until SL comes up to that standard a non SL player shouldn't win the Golden Boot. I wonder if the RLIF award will ever be given to a non NRL player?

I wasn't sure about James Graham before he went to Oz, now I believe the hype.

All the top European players go to the NBA, Allen Iverson has has come over "here" towards the end of his career. Sound familiar?

Soccer is the problem, it's un-British. And we shouldn't play it, leave it to those thin, weak divers across the channel.

Whenever there was a test put in front of him, and the team he led, whether it be international or Club, whether than challenge was English, French, Welsh, or Australian, teams Sinfield led came through.

realistically, what more could Sinfield do to be a valid contender? if we really do discount anyone but NRL players the award is useless, the NRL has a player of the year award, if we are including players from around the world, then should Sinfield win it, it would be justly deserved as his nomination is.

It's supposed to go to the best player on the planet. And that's not Sinfield. He's good, and should have gone to the NRL when offered, I can't believe someone would turn that down. It must be an English thing, or even a North of England thing.

I obviously watched every Storm match last year, and though Cronk won the Clive Churchill medal, without Smith and Slater we wouldn't have got there I doubt. Until Slater got injured I didn't realise how important he is to the Storm. He's much more important than Cronk. AND THAT'S ANOTHER DISGRACE, SLATER NOT BEING IN THE NOMINATIONS. It should be between Slater and Smith.

Its pretty easy to turn down the NRL. Oz isnt the land of milk and honey some on here would have you believe.

It is no more incumbent up Sinfield to 'prove himself' in the NRL than it is Cronk, Smith, Slater et al to 'prove themselves' in Super League.

Ben Barba was the best full-back in the NRL in 2012.
