BBC will televise 2 Challenge Cup matches this weekend Jonathan Davies.

So Wigan vs St Helens has the prestige coverage and Catalans vs Warrington fans are insulted twice. The match is on BBC Two, which is the second channel. And the match is commentated not by the number 1 rugby league commentator in Britain, Dave Woods, but by a very old and sometimes confused man named Ray French along with Davies. 
We have to ask: why is it happening like this? Is French being asked to work in Perpignan because his name is "French?" He can still give fair analysis after something has happened, but often he cannot follow the fast play, he is sometimes confused about the names of the players, and so he should be only in the post match commentary. |

Are you kidding? Ideally we wouldn't have to suffer either of them, but I'd rather listen to an hour of Ray French than a minute of Woods horrendous anorak-like commentary style. Along with Ben Proe, Dave Woods is one of the only RL commentators that makes the programming virtually unwatchable for me.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

Woods is by far better than French.
French can't say people's names correctly, he's always saying eeeeerr to fill in gaps whilst he's trying to remember something (which is all the time) and he just can't keep up with play.

None of them are any good to be perfectly honest, rarely do they ever say anything that a true fan would say so nothing ever controversial that might upset the RFL (like criticism of the officials when they furk up)
RF was pretty good BITD but is a bit too long in the tooth & far to many errors though till has a far better style than Woods IMO.
Davies isn't a commentator, he's just the side kick analyser, nothing more, just that he gets a bit hyper critical at times.

It's the BBC1 coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix that overlaps with the Challenge Cup kick off on Sunday. IIRC I read that the Eastenders omnibus has been moved to a late night slot now. |

Don't fret - with Monsieur French in the seat, you'll enjoy finding out where each player played his amateur rugby and what his Dad/Uncle/Grandad was like. It will also be amusing to hear him try to get his bouche round the Catalans players names.
Meanwhile, Davies will do his best Marvin the Paranoid Android impression in the background, in a valiant attempt to spoil it for everyone.
Watching a game on the BBC always reminds me how good the Sky coverage actually is.
