The final paragraph is superb though, where it explains who the writer is!

There’s no need to stoop as low as he has done by resorting to name calling.
The bottom line is these are the ramblings of someone who’s clearly out to provoke some kind of negative reaction. Although sometimes this can be a good thing because now we can all turn this into some kind of positive.
Paul Pottinger in this article misrepresents the good relationship rugby league has built up with rugby union in recent times. For Example Leeds Rhinos ground share with Leeds Tykes, Salford could be ground sharing with Sale Sharks and London Bronco’s used to ground share with Harlequins. Heck we even they was even a rugby union journalist (Tim Groves) in the last issue of forty-20.
Of course my favourite collaboration between rugby league and rugby union was Leeds Rhinos sharing a training session with England RU in 2005.
Finally I’d like to think that the majority of those good intentioned souls that support either code would like to see both codes grow. If we both grow then that’s better for everyone all round because it means more fun and a better way of life for more people as jobs will be created on the back of that growth.

| However having said all that we can still not excuse the real atrocities that rugby union has afflicted on our code. For example French Rugby Union should share it’s current prosperity with French Rugby League in an attempt to try and make up for all the damage that was done in the past by bad intentioned RU officials.

| Final paragraph says it all
Quote: "Paul Pottinger is Deputy Editor of Carsguide. His heretical views in no way reflect those of The Daily Telegraph, which knows that rugby league is the greatest game in the world.'"

| I'm not sure what to make of it, other than "he doth protest too much" in his dislike. It certainly hasn't made me angry.
Is he comparing RL to anything? Not as far as I can tell.
And in any case "These run in strict linear patterns until a mistake is made and one lot falls over the other's line. For this points are awarded" seems way better than "lots of fat men roll on the floor and tread on each other until the ball appears and someone kicks it. For this points are often awarded and the final scores of the game are usually divisible by 3" (see we can all be "amusing"icon_wink.gif if union is his game.
I suspect he's been on the industrial beer...

| Is it meant to be a protest at the inescapability of the sport, such is scale of the coverage it receives?
Perhaps Paul should consider moving to the UK. Not one of the grimy northern towns, full of provincial oafs, obviously.
He's proper hung-up on short man syndrome. I see from his carsguide profile pic, that he's a bald, bespectacled, rather geeky-looking gentleman (is that cyber-stalking? ). Presumably tallness is central to his sense of self worth. Keep at it lanky - you'll be a cacker Aussie version of Jeremy Clarkson in no time.

| Clarkson's funny though: most of the public sector should get off their ar$es and try doing a proper job and then complain when they have to fund their own pension and future completely on struggling businesses and whatnot. This guy here just had nothing better to do on his weekend.

So teaching and nursing are not proper jobs? I think public workers should get better pensions because they generally dont get paid well enough for the work they do and should be compensated in later life!!
For the record I work in the private sector!!

Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| Like Jeremy Clarkson, his main job is knocking one out over a car - a kind of una-dogger. (Why is it that bus/train/plane spotters are derided, but car spotters get their own magazines and TV shows?) Also like Jeremy Clarkson, he can be safely ignored.
