| I've just seen this video on the YouTube rlhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v, promoting some Canadian soccer team.
The point is, that must have cost, what, a few quid for the body paint, a few quid to hire the model, and a camcorder. Thus far, they have almost 300,000 views. This time yesterday I had no idea who the Vancouver Whitecaps were, today I know what their kit looks like (painted on a naked lady!). Granted, I'm never going to watch them play, but I'm sure that at least some natives would have seen that and decided to go along to a game or two.
It would be great if the RFL came up with a decent marketing ploy that went viral, and helped to spread the word about TGG.

| If we had marketing like RU then RL would be a lot bigger. TV advertising is a great way to market your product.
The recent bon jovi advert for the NRL is one of the best I have ever seen.

| That Bon Jovi song is alright, but I imagine if the RFL ever decided to have an official anthem it would be sung by Same Difference, or some other X Factor losers.

We can only dream. I doubt it will happen.
A 1min advert showing all the best clips of super league infront of packed stadiums with live music and fire behind the players like that would look prett awesome.
The RFL would simply say it is too expensive but if they played it at every RL game and got it on national tv a few times and put it all over youtube, facebook, myspace and twitter etc. and worked at getting as many people as possible to watch it then they would see the effects.

All it would need would be the footage, a bit of editing and the rights to a song. I don't see how it would be much more expensive than creating a team of motion-capture robots or any of the other weird ideas that Sky have come up with.
Our game is a good enough product not to need gimmicks, and I also don't see gimmicks like that for any other sports (admittedly only really watch football and NFL on Sky). Never understood why RL is seen and treated in such a strange way by the media, the only thing I can think is that people don't take it seriously because of the name of the sport?

It's not making the advert which is the expensive part. It is getting it to the wider audience. TV adverts cost alot to put on, especially if you want them on national tv in a primetime spot.
Wigan managed to put an advert on about 18 times on Granada in the North West regions though. The RFL should at least be doing that.
The problem with RL is that we don't get any free marketing. Football is constantly talked about on the news etc. that is free advertising for the sport, everyone knows when a big signing is made or when the season is starting but this is not the case in RL. Even people who watch RL (part time fans) probably don't know the season has started untill they realise a game is on sky that night while flicking through.... with it being the first game maybe they would have decided to buy a ticket, who knows? I bet we miss out on thousands of fans like this. I would suggest that within the next sky deal we surrender a few pennies and get sky to improve the way they show our sport in terms of the adverts and coverage, we would be better off in the long run.
The game itself will not advertise itself unlike football within the media. The RFL and the fans is the only thing that can spread the word. The RFL need to start taking it more seriously. Putting 'They're coming' up on the big screen at a match and having a few people dressed in black is what they come up with and it's pathetic.

| I thought when Sl first began we were moving into a new era. Anyone remember the mostly naked players (? Eagles hooker?) on national billboards, then the Bulls came along and the Wolves with Peter Deakin and it looked like RL would finally move out of its flat cap image. Sadly that momentum at club or league level wasn't maintained and we are back to a sport with min media coverage, little FTA coverage and the majority of the country not knowing the difference between Union and League. The Super kind of got lost somewhere along the way. They should have a massive league launch every year, the England RL team should be massively promoted and players advertised in glossy magazines etc (I wonder how many people in the country know who the England RL captain is?). Sadly marketing and RL have never be comfortable bed fellows.

And all of those people who don't know the difference or didn't know the difference.... RU will get to them first.
I have come to grips with the fact that our sport will never be huge. The only chance of being huge is for all teams to get in new stadiums.... averges fly up..... big financial investement..... salary cap flies up..... much like French RU.

I thought the 2009 CGI one with Stewart and Inglis was better.
Sky's graphics are generally better than Foxsports who have had the same boring intro stuff for years.
