| If they ony have $190K left on the cap for this year why cant he still sign and get extra money from 3rd party deals aslong as he does the work for them? That's what every other club does with their top stars isn't it, 3rd party deals. Who's to say how much he's worth aswell, he's only worth what a club is willing to pay or can afford.
It will be a real shame if he has to go to Union or somewhere because of this. I'm sure Rusty will sort something out though, although i bet the Broncos are having a good laugh now. It's says on the report that they'd have to release Asotasi and Dave Taylor to get him, how? I bet Asotasi is the top earner at Souths and Taylor will be on a good number aswell. It would be pointless releasing those two though because you'd get a world class centre but your pack would be ripped apart and be average.

| What's going on with the whole Inglis to Souths saga?
Anyone in Aus got any news as to whether it's gonna get done or not.

| The deals been handed into the nrl and salary cap commision.
Souths are very confident, his contact is back heavy for the 2013 season when the new tv deal comes in.

last story said the nrl will still questioning the deal
he will sign with souths imo but the nrl will probably put the contract in the salary cap for more than what souths are currently tabling meaning souths will have to lose players

| I thought 3rd party deals were paying for it and the NRL had basically changed the 3rd party rules so players could be paid as much as they can earn from a non club linked 3rd party?

| the nrl still has to approve 3rd party deals
they have to be for genuine employment
if the nrl feels they arent genuine they will be excluded

| haha, since when has being paid $100k for 30secs appearance in an advert ever been classed as "genuine employment"?

No. It's more in the nature of a dead weight. And has been for some time.
A salary cap without a draught is half of a solution. Which makes it no solution at all...

| its a joke, they are saying 3rd party deals have to be independent of any club influence. What a load of rubbish. if that was the case where are all the 3rd party deals Inglis was going to get at the Broncos? Wow what a surprise they were all withdrawn when Inglis decided to not join the Broncos. The NRL salary cap becomes more of a joke year on year. Nothing wrong with clubs using their connections to get players decent deals. Tough luck on clubs that are such poor businesses that they don;t have those connections.

| This does seem unfair. There should be no third party payments. To keep an even playing field. ie. the point of the salary cap.

I agree but if we want to keep the likes of Inglis in our game and say not go to union they should be better paid, surely it's time for the NRL to raise the salary cap.

| not only that but it gets the players in the magazines/tv etc advertising products which ultimately raises the profile of the game. Clubs should be allowed two marquee players who can earn whatever they like from 3rd parties. In fact if I was a player I would be talking to my lawyer about restraint of trade!
