| Skolars 28 Hornets RL 26
Quite a curiosity of a game. Skolars cruising after 37 minutes 18-0 up. One minute to go Hornets leading 26-22, Skolars' Sam Gee scored under sticks and win 28-26. Hornets had problems with their discipline, one player sin-binned, one sent off after 79 mins and the coach Stankevitch sent to the stands all seemingly for talking back to the ref!
Skolars hadn't won at home since July 2008 and it was their first win since May 2009 (away at Workington). The only way is up!

| At long last! It's sad to see any team with so many loses in a row so well done!

| First Skolars game I've made it to this season - they should pay me to come again. Lot of errors & scrappy play, not a great advert for RL.
Hornets had a conversion disallowed by the referee, I'm not sure why - as far as I could see, it went between the posts & the flags went up?

If I remember aright, the referee can only intervene if the touch judges disagree, so if he did do that he was wrong.

Which is exactly what happened. one flag went up, one down.
Personally didnt see it as a poor advert for RL. Especially in the opening half hour some of the attacking play from the skolars lads was a very good advert, it just seemed like with the early points a weight was off their shoulders. Did their best to make it interesting but in the end sneaked over. Rochdale were their own worst enemies in terms of discipline. 4 penalties, a yellow card, and 2 red (one for the coach and one for a played in the 80th minute) all for dissent!
a deserved win by the skolars and i honestly think something that can be kicked on from

One of the features of a game played in near-silence is that the referee can hear the coach mouthing off 50+ metres away and send him off without even needing to go near him. The frustration of the Rochdale team with some fairly bizarre refereeing throught the match was quite understandable (although given that I failed to notice only one of the touch judges putting up his flag, maybe I'm not the best observer.)
No doubt at all that the best side won, but I think the Skolars team of 2-3 years ago would've thrashed either of them. Sorry to be negative, but although i was really pleased to have seen them win, I went home up the M11 thinking there were probably better ways to have spent my Sunday afternoon.

maybe so, but you keep your gob shut, anyone who plays the game knows that so despite the referee (and i think he had a poor game going both ways) we all know you're penalised if you open your gob. once is maybe forgivable but 4 penalties, a sin binning and two sending offs is idiocy!
and the touch judges definitely disagreed.
and in regard to the skolars team of a few years back, maybe so. but the new regulations have hit a club like the skolars hard, not many northern players fancy challenging themselves by playing in the capital (and in fairness with the job situation many dont want to take the risk) but there were a few london boys in the squad yesterday and a lot of former SRL representatives. that can only be a positive. You could see the confidence that a few early points gave them, a win will hopefully give them the confidence to push on even further

| I remember they played really well against Oldham last year on Sky but couldn't kick on from that.
