| good decision, I never did understand how they could be included as part of the line, using that same logic you should be able to touch the goal post 6 foot up with the ball and it be classed as a try!

| It's not the rule change per se but doing it mid season that gets me. Although why they should be able to make rule changes without the agreement of the RLIF is beyond me.....

| Corner posts were a cancer that was destroying the game. Well done to the NRL for actiing decisively to change the rules mid-season without wasting time consulting the RLIF. Good to know that someone has their priorities for the sport sorted.

| I can see why it's logical.
After all, it's the only point in the field you can be considered out of play without touching the ground outside of the pitch markings.
So why do we treat that area of the pitch different from everywhere else?

a defensive winger can bend the corner post to touch an attacker, that will be deemed in touch.
last week in a game a corner post was crooked, leaning into the field of play and the PTB wasnt far away. the touch judge was trying to get it upright as the play continued.
why should the touchline extend up in the air.
its dumb

| It's stupid they should just be one rule book in RL IMO not one rule for the NRL and one for SL it dosent happen in any other sports.

| Actually, if you read the report, the NRL move means there isn't even one rule book in Australia. This is an NRL rule change only. The ARL might consider it for Origin matches, but not for all other games that come under its remit: 'junior grade', amateur etc, which will all be playing by the international rules on this issue.

No, the defender would be penalised for ungentlemanly conduct.
It eliminates an element of skill in wingers having to bend their body around the corner post and get the ball down without dropping it.
In my opinion, it seems to be a way of making scoring a try easier, which im wary about. Scoring a try should be difficult and involve skill in order to be rewarded with 4 points. We have to be careful in RL not to turn the game into try-fests. There should always be a balance between "entertainment" and the integrity of the game and over the years we've done away with competitive play the balls and competitive scrums to make the game more entertaining but we're in danger of losing sight of the point of the game.
Also the NRL should be currently much more concerned over the off-field discipline and conduct of their clubs and players rather than making bizarre mid-season rule changes.

We don't. Any object that is in contact with the ground touch is also in touch. A player in contact with said object would also be in touch. The only thing that is special about the corner flags is that they are the only object that tends to be close enough to the field of play for this to matter. To say touching the corner flags does not put the player into touch would be an (unnecessary) exception to the normal rules regarding being in touch.
