Perth's new NRL team will be called West Coast Pirates, if a WA Rugby League bid to enter a team in an expanded competition is successful.
The WARL today launched its new look, with the colours of red, gold and black a salute to history, as they were the original colours of the Western Reds. The Reds fielded a team in the NRL and Super League from 1995 to 1997.
The Pirates' moniker will replace the old Reds' logo, which up until now had been the face of the bid.

Has to be the worst name for a team I have ever heard.
What was wrong with WA Reds?
I would love to see a team in Peth and in NZ to seriously EXPAND the game, but that name and logo is just awful.

Well, look at the history behind the name. It actually means something.
Pirate is just totally made up and has nothing behind it.
West Coast Swans would make much more sense and means much more than 'pirates'. However, this would be a bad idea because of the football team in sydney.
There was nothing wrong with WA Reds. |
