| I don't see why it should be moved, it could easily be turned into a thread about what the NRL should do.
There's no chance channel 9 will lose NRL now, the best that could happen is they keep their games and channel 10/1 HD make a play for Saturday afternoon and Sunday/Monday night footy.
Channel 10/1 HD would have to show their games live or slightly delayed in SA/NT/WA.
The problem is were negotiating a deal without knowing which clubs we are/if any letting in.

| WOW! What a frickin deal that is!! Now the pressure is really on Gallop and the NRL. Anything less than a $billion and we may as well pack up and go back to being the NSWRL sponsored by Winfield cup. We thought their last "war chest" was big, this is massive!
The NRL needs to grow a pair and use whatever money it gets to grow RL into a true national competition. I'd be announcing Brisbane2 and Reds for 2013 and team plans for Adelaide, Wellington, PNG and Bears to be developed over the next 20 years. Put the money towards making it happen and by 2022 we might get ahead of the AFL!

| If the deal is based on viewing figures and the numbers quoted on here are to believed the NRL deal should be close to $A2bn.
Let's see what Gallop comes up with.

| All the 9 games are live australia wide on Foxtel. 4 games live on C7. Shown on TV and phones. etc etc.
Interesting to note that less than 35% of Australians are actually signed up to Pay TV.
This deal has serious consequences for the NRL. I don't think our deal will be as big as we first hoped now.
Also saw this saying that in NZ Rugby and NRL games ratings are down 50%!!! Due to earthquakes apparently. Poor buggers.
I look at it and think what nonsense those numbers are for Australians 14+.

| If Gallop plays it right it will be bigger, but double?
Will we be making demands to have games shown live in all states?

| We have to be aiming to match what they got
1. $1billion
2. Internet and phone deal worth $80-100mill
3. Dedicated NRL channel on Fox
4. National FTA
5. Fixed scheduling
6. Significant contra advertising
Anything less is abject failure. Worrying thing is if we pull up well short the public perception of the strength of AFL against the weakness of NRL is going to be hugely damaging for years to come in terms of sponsorships and popularity. The spotlight now falls firmly on Gallop and the NRL.
lol at the AFL player's already holding their hands out for more money.
I have Fox and I am dreaded the $25mill of advertising a year they are going to be providing AFL. Every time you turn Fox on you just know there is going to be AFL rammed down your throat!

| Maybe companies dont want to advertise their product, during a game, continually dragged through the gutter by its players and hence, viewing figures mean squat. I dont know, this is the only reason I could come up with, if, the NRL dont get a bigger TV deal

| If there's the appetite for it why aren't there NRL teams in Adelaide and Perth? It does stick out like a sore thumb (to me at least) that two state capitals aren't represented in the national league.

we did ok on that wet sat evening last season to get 12,000 for the storm v canterbury game, but these are one off games, as we dont really have many local rl teams in the area it is hard to judge what the core support in the area would be, all the locals seem to follow afl
