Sorry to fans of Neil Fox and Eric Ashton. Both were good in their time. However neither was a better player than Hanley or Schofield.
As for Hanley being in the centres, rather than loose forward or second row, I would say first that Hanley was outstanding as a centre, and second that you would rather have Karalius, Huddart and Burgess in your run on team than dropping one to put Hanley in the forwards.
However I would accept that Jason Robinson vs Martin Offiah is a close call, which is why I gave Offiah the honour of 18th man.

No it is not.
I am trying to show that some current players like James Graham are among the best of the past 50 years, as many important Australian commentators believe.
Who would you put in place of the team I selected? Surely only the hooker and one wing position is debatable. |

Just for starters Cunningham over Roby and thats not thinking back before turn of the century.
Martin Offiah did far more in a GB shirt than Robinson, his best years (Certainly on the international stage) were in RU.
Hanley in the centre?? He is one of, if not THE best 13 in the world ever! That is where you would put him in this team.
Jonathan Davies? not for me there has to have been better.Schofield's best days for GB came playing at 6 between 89 and 94.
I wouldn't be able to go back before the mid 80's from personal opinion of having seen them however from what i know and have been told Boston,Murphy,Millward and Reilly would have to go in. |

Deary me. Leaving aside the flexibility of the 50 years, Robinson v Offiah is not close! Offiah was so far superior there is no debate. Look at the all-time scoring charts, if you want a clue. Ashton and Fox are musts in the centres. Hanley would have to be put in but elsewhere in the line-up. I can't be bothered with the forwards other than to say James Roby!!!

I thought that I might get hammered for Roby. I admit that was a blunder, because Kieron Cunningham was obviously better. I had just forgotten him. Shame on me.
I will revise the team based on readers reasonable criticism as soon as I get back to my desktop.

Apart from all the rest of your guff - omitting Ashton & Fox FFS - you can forget either of those SL era hookers. Stevo destroys the pair of them and so does John Gray and Flash Flanagan. |
