| As I type, York have hit one hundred & thirty eight!
Huddersfield beat Blackpool back in '94 but that was the Regal trophy.
Cas beat Rochdale 106 - Zip in 2007 in the league, was that the record?

| 142 was highest. 144 has been achieved Today. West Wales should do the right thing in the name of player welfare and resign from the league with immediate effect.

| IIRC when Huddersfield posted the 142-4 win in the Regal Trophy Barrow also won 138-0 on the same weekend.
Well done to York on their new record but that match can't have done anyone much good. This isn't the first hiding for West Wales either. They shouldn't just be binned off but surely League 1 needs to be split in two after this year to allow the newer clubs to get up to speed without having to face such mismatches. Let the winners of that League 2 play the bottom side in League 1 to attempt to gain promotion, if they can't do that then they wouldn't be able to compete at the higher level so stay where they are.

| Agree with above, their results so far
82-6 v bradford
74-6 v Workington
6-54 v North Wales
76-8 v Scholars
84-6 v Whitehaven
and now 144-0 v York
It looks like they have missed a few games too and only one game at home.
Hemel also haven't won a game and have been battered a few times and Coventry have one win against Hemel. I would imagine certain teams in the upper echelons of the Conference Premier would be getting better results.

The conference teams would be putting 40+ points past them.

| I was quite surprised by today's result. After all West Wales had Archie Snook and Harry Boots both playing in the pack. However the West Wales pack was not quite up to the York City onslaught.

You are on the right track. I was just quoting the team sheet which is obviously misleading.

| What an utterly embarassing score line. No excuse at all for that. If I was the rfl I would be investigating irregular betting patterns

I think it's the quality of the west wales team rather than any irregular betting

| York are obviously a good team going off their performance against The Cats. I have played in 100+ games and remember just how much time it takes to score and kick and then restart. To score that many tries suggests that West wales barely saw the ball. It must be a worry for the integrity of the league and the welfare of players. Next year I imagine that York will be looking to move up.
On another note, were all of the scores mentioned using the same scoring system. I assume that Wigan's 116-0 against Flimby and Fothergill (?) would have been using 3 point tries. (24 tries and 22 goals = 140 in todays money)

The Huddersfield (142-4) and Barrow (138-0) results included 4 point tries (the value increased from 3 in about 1983). The record score prior to that was also held by Huddersfield (119-2 v Swinton Park, an amateur club in the challenge cup) registered a few years prior to Wigan's win over Flimby and Fothergill. While the Huddersfield score from that day about a century ago may have been higher than 144 if we converted each 3 point try into a 4 point try (it could have been from 27 tries and 19 goals so 146 points in today's system for example) it would seem silly to discount a higher total on the scoreboard today from the record books due to the scoring system having changed. (There was a similar discussion IIRC when Kevin Sinfield broke Lewis Jones's points record for Leeds as Jones had scored 3 point tries).
Also to make direct comparison of scores difficult (if the desire to do so was there) at the time of Huddersfield's 119-2 win and Wigan's 116-0 win drop goals were worth 2 points so all goals were often lumped together. Jim Sullivan's record 22 goals in that game for Wigan may have included some DGs (however unlikely it seems that a team scoring over 20 tries would go for a DG) which today would reduce the total. The same could apply to the 119 point tally.

| I played in a game once when we lost 66-6, it seemed like they scored off every set. How in Earth does a team have enough time to score 144 in 80 minutes?!

| I'd assume they had half a team of College Union players in the side to make up the numbers

| I wonder how long West Wales can survive for.Nobody wants to watch their team getting hammered every week. When games are so one sided there is no entertainment value for the winning supporters or the losing supporters or neutral spectators.
