| "RL putting in money at grassroots is helping produce players for other codes"
(The full quote is here
Isn't it better to throw money at something that will be sustainable than a player who may leave regardless?
And, when he mentions no players union, what happened to the RLPA?

edit - Just re-read that tweet. Looks like a bona fide fake to me
re-edit - oh hang on. it looks kosher at a third glance. Ignore me, i am not a user of twitter.

| what does he mean when he sez "neglecting showpiece"
Also is he saying the RFL should ignore grassroots? Oh and I thought Wigan were happy to let Ashton go as he was never gonna be 1st choice full back?
Offiah has short memory as I remember him saying last year how Kyle should stay at saints for few years then go Union. He never once said that Kyle should stay in our game for good.

| He's currently banging on about players not getting paid enough. Difficult arguement to try win in the climate where a lot of those who pay at the turnstile may have been made, or threatened with, redundancy in recent years.
That, and increased wages equals increased cuts for agents…

Is there much difference?

Because rugby league hasn't got the same money to spend on top players, international rugby union ( the show piece) brings in massive revenue.

I think people should realise that rugby league is more club based game unlike union. Fans are more affiliated with the clubs they follow.
I pretty sure that lots of fans on the street and in twickenham who wear england tops dont follow the Union club game at all. The RFU just like other countries has managed to make international RU an event. People who dont even follow the sport go and watch the games.

| I’d like to think that the grassroots game in Leeds is pretty good. It’s the RFL’s obsession with expansion that is draining this sports resources. You go and have a look how many London based Premiership teams there are – 5/6?
Then there’s all the Sydney based clubs in the NRL.
The reality is, most sporting businesses go where the fans are. But the super league just goes where little or no fans are. They wasn’t a single Hull team in the first Super League season and look at how well two of them are doing now.
The reality is that there’s many clubs (defunct or struggling) up north who could do with a financial injection (along with good management) and they’d thrive as a super league club. They’d get much more fans than you’d get at a Harlequins and Crusaders game.

We should aim for this, or we'll never be able to match wages for the top players.

What you meant to say was............let's go back to it being a local hobby. We were doing fine before sky got involved........let's just forget the bad things prior to 1995.......we were all watching rl played in packed out stadiums......the game want predictable at all.......
