Just been watching some old footage, why on earth did we ever scrap this, granted it would be nowhere near the profile of the SOO, but im not bothered, I think it would be more intense and benificial than the exiles game.
My teams would be.
Yorks
Leon Pryce
Tom Briscoe
Kris Welham
Ryan Atkins
Ryan Hall
Danny McGuire
Rob Burrow
Sam Burgess
Mike McIllorum
Gareth Carvell
Jon Wilkin
Gareth Ellis
Ben Westwood
Danny Houghton
Jamie Peacock
Danny Brough
Luke Burgess
LANCS
Sam Tomkins
Josh Charnley
Stefan Ratchford
Lee Gaskill
Chris Riley
Kevin Sinfield
Jon Lomax
Adrian Morley
James Roby
James Graham
Danny Tickle
Gareth Hock
Sean O`louglin
Harrison Hanson
Chris Tuson
Anthony Mullally
Richie Myler
Maybe even a tri-county with the talent for Cumbria of Mossop, Lunt, Ben Harrison, Gardner, Amor, Wilkes, Jon Clarke etc etc.

| surely the likes of Jack Reed and Gareth Widdop would get in there. As they were both born in Yorkshire.
Sam Tomkins was born in Milton Keynes, so if your going on place of birth he wouldnt get in.
Leon Pryce is rubbish so shouldnt be anywhere a rep side.
Harrison Hansen was born in NZ so wouldnt qualify. If he does so should Rangi Chase.
Lee Briers is a better 6 than Sinfield and would qualify as he was born in St Helens.
Chris Riley was born in Warrington which is technically Cheshire not Lancshire.
However theres is no chance of any of the Oz based players being made available if they are mid season games. If they were made available and teams were based purely on where they were born i would go:
Yorks - smith, hall, atkins, yeaman, briscoe, widdop, mcguire, JP, Haughton, Carvell, Ellis, JJB, S.Burgess
subs burrow, bailey, westwood, Lynch
Lancs - Wellens, Charnley, Bridge, Ratchford, Foster, Briers, Myler, Morley, Roby, Graham, Hock, Tickle, Sinfield
Subs O'loughlian, Prescott, Lomax, Wood
I think State of Origin in Australia is based on where you make your first grade debut. So Yorks would have Sinfield and Morley and Lancs would have Luke Robinson and Michael Mcllorum. I am not sure on what the legibility on people like Harrison Hnasen, Rangi Chase, Gareth Widdop and Jack Reed would actually be.

| Yes totally agree. This fixture should be nailed on with a massive advertisement campaign, with the players and crowd increasing the intensity, it only takes a couple of biff's to get it going and the fixture would ignite.
Or even a quadruple competition yorkshire, lancashire, cumbria, exiles. playing each other once then the top two playing off in the final. Surely this gives players on the fringes of international rugby more intense representitive experience.

| I love the idea but it's never quite worked out. I've seen some lame games over the years. And the fixture doesn't give the opportunity to bond the likely national team players.
Whatever the mid-season fixture looks like, I don't think we want another phone vote scheme to pick the team?

| Based on where u make your first grade debut, I would go something along the lines of:
Yorks - Smith, Hall, Atkins, Shenton, Briscoe, McGuire, Brough, JP, Haughton, Morley, Ellis, Burgess, Sinfield
Subs - Carvell, JJB, Westwood, Burrow
Lancs - Tomkins, Charnley, Ratchford, Gaskell, Foster, Briers, Myler, Graham, Roby, Mossop, Hock, Tickle, O'loughlian
Subs - Mcllorum, Wood, Lomax, Prescott

What was wrong with fans picking the team? Surely it makes them feel more involved and subsequently more likely to actually go to the game?
The problem with mid season rep games is that because they dont have the prestige of SoO are afraid of injuring a club mate playing for the opposition! I dont know if SoO in australia had this problem when it first started out. Maybe given time we will develop something similar.

| Forgot how much I used to enjoy watching Barry Mac,
love the way he used to run at defence.
That last play sums it up though compared to state of origin.
To be honest, I think the Exiles game was a very good idea and proved to be a success. No reason why that cant become a big fixture.
Also be great to be played in London where there are a lot of oz/nz fans.

| We discuss this so often and I always post the same thing.
What exactly is Lancashire? It's a Manchester cricket team and the county of places like Blackpool, Burnley and Preston. I'm from Warrington and support St Helens and the concept of Lancashire respresenting me is a tad strange to me.
If we're going to do something 'rep' based then it has to mean something to be successful. That is why Origin is successful, because it means a lot to them. Failing that the Exiles concept is the next best thing, as at least it is of a higher standard than you'd get in a Yorks v Lancs event.

Steady! Don't bring cricket into it! That Manchester team you talk about represents 27 proud boroughs of the old boundary, has 17 home grown players in its squad and are champions of this country!
And for the record you live in cheshire!

You could always go East vs West, but there would be plenty of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire" chanting (whatever you call it)

It runs from the River Duddon in the North to the River Mersey in the South. Irish Sea to the West and, for the sake of simplicity, we'll just say the Pennines to the East.
The whole Greater Manchester/Merseyside thing was administrative only. Even at the time it was said that it wasn't breaking up the historic county boundary.
