having been to wigan / saints at the JJB, and bradford/leeds at odsal the derby at the KC is king of them all.

| Gary Hetherington killed off any chance of Leeds v Bradford being a big derby by taking the Bulls to court and putting massive financial strain on them and in turn effecting the quality of the players they signed!

Why make pathetic excuses? It's not needed. It was a friendly FFS, that sort of crowd is par for the course for friendlies.
Well done Hull and Hull KR for attracting such a crowd, you obviously miss your rugby. That's all that needs to be said.

Got to admit I love a bit of intimidation on an away day on the East Riding.

| There's little to do in Hull at the best of times. There's also the fact that Hull is a single city and the game was played in the city centre (just about) with direct transport links.
Besides, just because there's more people there, it doesn't mean it's the best game

when i went to all 3 derby games 3 years ago, the Hull derby really stood out
it was paul cookes first game for KR and the FC faithfull were screaming judas at him
it was magnificent.
the atmosphere that day was at the time the best ive ever experienced at a RL game anywhere, including NRL grand finals with 83,000 in and origin in brisbane before 53,000

Lets get a few things straight. Ther is as much to do in Hull as most other Northern cities. Wherever the game was played city centre, middle of Beverley etc there would have been a big crowd there.
The reason there was 16000 there is simply because despite what the national press would have you think Hull is a rugby city in the same way that Wigan is a rugby town. As such we want to see top class rugby played in a top class stadium. We also turn out in big numbers to watch amateur rugby in the area. We simply love the game. The fact that we have two professionla teams in the one city is also testimount to the love of the game as we can clearly support two teams.
It also needs to be stressed just how much Richard Horne is appreciated in the city. He s a great ambassidor for the city and especially Hull FC. He is imo one of the most underrated players in SL. Who whilst he has had his problems in the past 2 years has been a fantastic servant of the club. He deserved a 16000 crowd. He could easily have gone off for bigger bucks in his early career but he stuck through thick and thin with the club he loves and is now reaping the rewards.
Hull derby is simply the ONLY proper derby in SL and also the biggest.

Wigan & Saints drew 16,854 for a friendly at JJB Stadium in 1999. I only ever make one argument for Wigan v Saints - team with the greatest history v the team with the second greatest history. But each to their own.

wigan saints didnt have the same passion as the hull derby
the atmosphere was great and wigan upset saints so the crowd were fantastic but the hull game had something else behind it. i was amazed that the game in england could produce something like that
