| In order to mitigate the lack of avoiding-relegation incentives, should there be some other form of penalty imposed on the team finishing bottom? One idea could be a financial penalty to the club, or having them forced to play behind closed doors for a few games the next season etc. discuss.

| So...the team that can't afford players as good as the rest of the league, you want to make poorer? Why would you want to do that?

| So if a club like Salford, who have money troubles as it is, come bottom, we should take money off them making them even less finacially sustainable and competetive?
You sir are a genius.

| Wow. Even General Custer and the Charge of the Light Brigade combined can't match that for a bad idea.

| What about this.
We pool all the players and put them into pots
14 full backs
14 left wings
..............and so on
we then get the remaining players in a backs and forwards utility pool.
We then have Sky broadcast the draw live where each club pulls out a name from each pot in turn for each position. Each club then pulls out names from the utility pools until they have 25 players.
That becomes the squad, salaries are set by a committee and paid centrally.
Coaches are told 'coach' with the squad you have.
repeat this every year and I bet no team will become dominant, you never know, Hull FC might even win at Wembley if we do it for 50 yrs or so.

That's kind of how the NFL populate the player roster of their expansion teams.

| Surely it would be beter to just get the 14 club captains and have them pick sides, like in the school playground.
Then perhaps they can play rock, paper, scissors for which "team" gets which ground as its home.
And finally, Stevo can be put in the "stocks" before each televised game, and fans can line up to throw rotten eggs at him.
Actually, the last idea isn't bad, ........ now where's the phone number of Sky Customer Services ........

| They already are penalised financially. They don't get as much prize money.
But taking money off a financially struggling team... idea of a lifetime!

| Bizarre. More like every team in the play offs has to contribute one player from their academy squad to a central pool (At the choice of the RFL's youth director) who are then given to the teams finishing outside the play offs in a draft style format, bottom gets first dibs etc.
It brings in the talent levelling all the American sports use without needing to have independant youth production sites like those sports have with the university systems.

| The team that finished bottom should be forced to go on Noel's House Party and get gunged. That'll learn 'em.
