| Sinfield and Tomkins are probably the most famous players in SL for obvious reasons, however they are less well know to general public even when compared to 'average joes' in the premiership or england rugby union players!

| i know some leeds fans are getting upset that "sir kevin" isn't the most famous player in superleague but this is kind of like asking who is more famous out of chris ashton and ryan hall. tomkins has played union has more sponsorship deals and now is the higest known paid player in the history of rugby league.

Not really, I was just interested in what other people thought on the subject!

| The winning captain lifting a trophy is the classic image of most sports, that makes Sinfield more likely to be recognised as a Rugby League player

| Tomkins and Sinfield are probably equally recognisable in RL circles. Outwith RL, there's been enough speculation about Tomkins' possible defection to RU, and a visible appearance for the Barabarians, that he's more probably more recognisable in RU.
Outside rugby as a sport, he's also been on Question of Sport recently - but so has Rob Burrow. If QoS pulls in over a million viewers, I reckon both Tomkins and Burrow could be more recognisable than Sinfield to the population in general because of that.

| Is the OP a Wigan fan by any chance, desperate to get everyone talking about ratboy some more?
Must be something to do with living in small backward towns where nothing happens bar the odd RL match that makes these people post drivel like this.
Kevin Sinfield has captained his club to 15 finals in the last decade, winning most of them too, i'm sure like most of us he could give a **** whether the average joe on the street recognises him.

Exactly. There's no comparison between the two at this point. Sinfield is not just a Leeds legend, but a Super League legend. That a few more union fans might recognise Tomkins is immaterial.
