Sensational Salford Demolish the Saints

Two sides separated by just over twenty miles down the M62, but by a gulf in difference in recent achievement, met at the AJ Bell Stadium as Salford Red Devils took on St Helens in the final game of an incredible round twenty-one of Super League 2022.

St Helens were the bookies favourites, but comfortably in top position and playing the side in eighth, they perhaps might have expected more than a ten-point deficit on the handicap coupon.

A win for Saints would move them within a point of securing the minor premiership, but a victory for the home side would lift them up two places and into the play-offs.

Congratulations to Salford, that's a fantastic result!

I bet their fans are buzzing & rightly so, into the six to boot.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you. Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.:Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG

First thrashing of the season for Saints with Salford probably putting in a stunning performance for many years in Superleague.
Could have easily have been a 50-6 score line, if Salford play like that in the play offs then they are going to cause lots of problems for the opposing teams.

I suspect Tim Lafai will find Konrad Hurrell in his back pocket when he gets home, as for Brodie Croft easily in a league of his own, by far the best half back in super league. As for Joe Burgess must be wane's first choice winger, and Kallum Watkins pure class.

Been an admirer of Brodie Croft this season, I think Kallum Watkins mentioned the day before the game they are going to give Saints a hard time, they must have had a game plan that certainly worked.

Respect to the Saints fans came in big numbers unlike plenty of other "massive" clubs and in the main stayed to the end, I assume as the entertainers other than the score they must have loved how Salford played, "Rowleyball" is truly breathtaking.

And in his presser in a dig at w*nker Wilkin Burgess described the team as having 17 sets of huge Minerals.

Jon Wilkin is a right nob head and should be nowhere near any pundit analysis. Get rid of the fool. All the best to Salford .

It was rather a good afternoon eh SRAO? icon_biggrin.gif

I'd go as far as saying the first half performance was as good as I've seen in 33 years of watching Salford. Some utterly sublime play that lead to a number of try of the month/season contenders.

I really hope someone has the balls to give it to Wilkin next time he makes it into the Sky punditry box. icon_lol.gif

Agree with what's said above as well, Burgess has to be in contention for a WC wing spot and Watkins switch to the back row has been a masterstroke. Totally reborn as a player.

I could mention the whole.team though TBH after yesterday, so many superb performances and to keep players with the quality of YJW, Lomax, Roby, Walmsley, Knowles so quiet was a huge collective effort.

Now where's my good friend LeBron hiding these days? icon_biggrin.gif

Talk about a coupon buster !

Stunning result for Salford but, Saints are getting themselves ready for the play offs and it's just a shame that they can easily afford to lose a few games and not be too badly affected.

You will have had a cracking day though and good for you !

I get what your saying Wrencat and there could well be some of that in it, but I think if you asked any Saints fan who was there I think they will tell you that we simply blew them away, as judderman said earlier it probably could/should have been 50-6 rather than 44-12.

It was bound to come eventually no way was saints going to just keep winning, and the fact they almost lost to Shakey the week before was an indication the loss was coming - but no one saw the absolute pasting on the cards. Good on Salford.
Glad we aren't playing saints this week as I cant see their egos taking it well!

Saints are not getting ready for the play offs, they are just struggling across their whole back line, shirts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are injured and our back 3 forwards have not played together for quite a while because of injuries or self inflicted bans.

Woolf will have them prepared around September he can’t rest many players in the first team squad because we are down to 20 players which is happening to other clubs as well.
