| I imagine Widnes will be another championship semi pro club with a rich history before too long.
They are currently owned by a group of investors petrified by risk, I read an interview with James Rule in which he was basically saying they can't sign better players unless they sell lots more season tickets. Meaning 'we only want to spend your money, not our own' or 'if you buy this inferior product we will have the money to improve it'.
Good riddance come the qualifiers.

| Dreadful and depressing, especially for a club that still likes to be remembered as the 'cup kings' of the late 1970s. However, it cannot help in the slightest to play a cross-pennines cup tie on a Friday night as I'd guess Leeds attendance would have been at least 1000 up had it been played on Saturday or, espcially, Sunday, afternoon.

Never mind Widnes being former "cup kings", where were the Leeds fans ???
They'll all be their when the finals come around pretending that they give a damn and showing how "loyal" they are.

| The generation of Widnes fans I grew up with (40s) were IMHO, the last of the "old lancashire" crop, now the town is swamped with scousers who can't stand "woolly back" sports. I loved the away matches at Widnes in the late 80s & early 90s, great atmosphere and what a team they had but I think it's lost in the same way Salford is lost/losing* (*delete as appr.).

It's not Leeds job to fill every away ground they go to, it's Widnes job to fill their stadium, any fans Leeds bring are a bonus, I bet at least 800 where from Leeds. Probably doubled that if played on a Sunday.

| I said on the Leeds forum that Widnes have become a zombie club, typical of any club that James Rule comes in contact with. It'll be sad to see (although I don't think it'll happen), but I wouldn't mind seeing Widnes get relegated as it might wake the Widnes board up.

Absolutely agree, it's not Leeds job to take fans to away matches.
However, supporters are supposed to support and not sit at home on their backsides, pretending that they are "Leeds no 1 fan"
Mickey poor from Widnes fans and equally poor from the Leeds fans.
The real disappointment is just how uninterested fans have become in the Challenge Cup.
Having SL sides come into the comp later on has taken all the romance out of the competition.

| Only 4,500 tickets sold for today's Cas v Saints game. They'll be hoping for a big walk-up.
Not going to look great on national TV.

I highly doubt that’s true. There’s meant to be over 1000 of us coming along and there’s no way there’ll only be 3,500 Cas fans. If there’s a game last years gloryhunters will come out for its this one. Also a lot of people will be paying on the gate as obviously no season tickets for cup games.

So I guess I am nota real fan then for not going to a game that at best after leaving work it would be 8pm before I get to Widnes and then park up and get to ground and a seat so again at best miss half of first half. 180 mile round trip for me on a Friday night along m62.
But yeah the challenge cup is in a dire state attendance wise, but playing games on a Friday night is a strange choice and is no use to anybody.

4,500 tickets sold for #CCCasStH - and Cas hoping for a pay on the gate walk-up. Generation has grown up with Super League season tickets, both a blessing and curse when it comes to the cup.'"

Castleford Tigers v St Helens team sheet. About 4,500 tickets sold, with 1,500 from Saints, but you can pay at the ground.'"

| Shocking that is, still can’t get my head round that unless there’s going to be a massive amount of people paying on the gate which is possible of course. They’ve been poor this season Cas fans, shows there really was a lot of gloryhunters.

| We played saints in exactly the same stage of the cup on tv on a Saturday exactly 1 year ago and the crowd was about 5.5k. Today's crowd will be roughly 5k.
I didn't bother with the game last year as I was working so I watched it after work. I'm doing exactly the same today. #glorysupporter.
