Toronto Torture Doncaster with Rugby Masterclass It was second against third as two of the sides with a one hundred percent Kingstone Press Championship One record met at a sunny Keepmoat Stadium. With Barrow winning last night a win was required by both sides to draw back level top.
Doncaster have made great start to the 2017 season and with a team containing a number of players with Super League experience they have their eyes on a Championship spot next season. The Wolfpack welcomed back Moimoi after a three game suspension, but were without new signing Ryan Bailey who was signed too late to make his debut.

| Yeah a super league level team thrashing part-timers - a real "inspiration" to us all
Meanwhile in the real world of League 1
Last week Doncaster just shaded a hard fought 3rd vs 4th clash against Hunslet that everyone from both sides agreed was a great "proper game of rugby" (to quote our CEO).
This week 3rd vs 2nd against """"Toronto"""" .... well the quotes below from our board this week say it all so can't be bothered to add much to them - except to say I'm glad we didn't appear to put a great deal of effort into marketing this complete waste of everybody's time.
Quote: inspiration "I could not watch another moment of that bollox.
A near Super league standard club, artificial in every way, full of mercenaries, beating our lads up with the tacit approval of the three stooges .... nah!'"
Quote: inspiration "Watched the debacle on TV, totally out played by a full time highly paid and subsidised outfit destined for SL, no malice to Toronto but we and the other Championship clubs are not facing this team on an even playing field.
The way the great sport of RL has been run since the inception of Soooper Dooper League is one of the main factors why I no longer attend matches, its run by cowboys. Wave enough cash at the RFL/SKY and you can break any rule you like, Salary Cap, Overseas players....you name it.
Thought of the day, Toronto is in Canada right, so surely there are limits on the number of Non Canadian players they can have, I think there were only maybe one or two actual Candians on display today...some others may once have said aboot or had some Maple Syrup does that now qualify???
None of the Championship clubs will prosper while ever we are not expected to play on a level playing field, the french last year and now Toronto, who's next The Mexico City Bandits!!!.
It's clear that were on a level playing field then, the salary cap for Championship clubs is 50% of turnover or relevant income....how much income have Toronto got from gate money etc?
Until there is a massive shakeup in the way our sport it run I am done with RL'"
Quote: inspiration "
... That was everything bad about this current set-up in this league.
I will make the Leeds game my last ... I am finished with it.
I said I would if more of this money-club induction carried on, but didn't stick to it.
As for Donny harbouring thoughts of promotion ... get real!
Gonna walk away from this stinking game ....
While ever there is a placement club.'"

| If they'd have been put straight into SL or the championship everyone would be complaining about them not earning the right to be there (despite them having everything in place to be an SL club). They were put into league 1 to appease the flat cap brigade, and now they're giving every team in the division a good towelling, those same people whinging even more.

| They're hardly 'earning' the right this way though, signing any ex super league player they can with no restrictions and then battering amateur/part-time teams.
It's not exactly hard work is it.

Blame Derek B and Leigh (and the RFL). They are the ones who helped to abolish cap restrictions on lower league clubs. Any club in Championship/League 1 can spend the full £1.8m cap if they want to. Toronto are not doing anything wrong.

| Maybe the part timers should withdraw from the cup in future if the prospect of playing full time opponents is that unappealing.

| So, what is the solution ?
Keep the game as it is and watch it wither & die or, try and expand and if so, how ?
It would be helpful if there was a strategy from the RFL and with Toronto & Toulouse looking like they will be challenging for SL in the relatively near future, there looks like there may have to be a return to a "franchise" based system.
The change to the current structure looks a bit short sighted now and it was only implemented 2 seasons ago

it looked short sighted and silly before it was implemented. None of the problems with it can have come as a surprise.
We have even more problems on the horizon, as soon as next year we have the prospect of part-time clubs having to deal with the possibility of needing to organise 3 overseas trips in 7 weeks at 1 weeks notice.
What are the chances next year that a Rochdale, Sheffield or Swinton struggle to put together a squad to travel to Canada at a weeks notice?

That scenario just highlights the ludicrousness of a Canadian team playing in an English league.

Get stuffed you fool. Every club should spend anything they like within the the SC, If they can prove they have the finances to do so,It then becomes an even field for all clubs.

| Only in rugby league would people feel anger and bitterness towards someone for putting together the best team they can in order to try and win the league. "It's not fair, they should've been made to sign worse players wah wah wah".
No, what we have is teams that have had 100+ years to get their act together being shown up and humiliated by an organization that has existed for less than a year. Doncaster is not a small place, they have a great stadium, plenty of 'tradition' for the people that like that yet they were utterly destroyed by complete novices. Who does the blame fall on for that, because IMO it's certainly not Toronto or the RFL.
