| Every player says this to try to drive up their next contract.
Prop is just about the most specialized position in Union. The only thing he has going for him is the right size and shape. To play prop in Union he would need to learn in a year what Union props take a lifetime to learn.
Wingers can swap codes in a year - I'd say it would take 5 years for a prop, minimum, and even then you don't know if he would be any good at scrums, rucks and mauls.

| Standard approach to push up a contract. Doubt he'd play prop though, surely he'd try to follow SBWs path? Not that it's ever going to happen.

| If this story is at all serious (and I am doubtful that Sam is seriously considering switching codes) then Russell Crowe could offer him a supplementary career in Hollywood during the off season to keep him occupied and make him even more wealthy. Rusty won't let the big man run away from South Sydney.

| There's no way he'd be a prop in union. All the years of physical conditioning he's had for League are almost the total opposite for what you need to be a union prop. His key attributes in League of tough tackles and hard running aren't done by props in Union.
A props key job in Union is the scrums, closely followed by lineouts and then rucking and mauling.
If he did move to Union, which I can't see when he's just got his brothers out to Australia with him, then he'd have to be either a flanker or no 8.
He'd be better at centre in Union than he would at prop.

| 1. burgess will not leave Australia
2.Sam Burgess won't leave his family now they are all in sydney
3. Russell crow will defiantly not allow him to leave after all the hoops he has jumped through to get all 4 of them
4. Sam burgess absolutely loves South Sydney as if it was his home town club and they can actually afford to pay the going rate.
5.Sam Burgess could play either lock or for england and he still would get picked he is like sonny bill William's both freaks.
6. For some reason they have just wrote the same thing about andrew fafita and he came out and said its not true.

| When Jeremy Gussett was asked about Burgess on the BBC site he said they'd love to have him at inside centre for England. To be fair, he also pretty much agreed it was never going happen. I don't think it will either, unless they're so convinced he'd be a world-beater that they spend unheard-of money. Can't see it personally, Union's got too many people on the pitch so always reduces the impact of even the very best (in relative terms). If you're a physical freak or have outrageous skill you have more relative impact in the purer sport of League, as Tomkins got a quick flavour of when he gave it a go. Even Robinson - yeah, I mean Union fans go crazy about how brilliant he was, but that was over plays across a tour, that he was making in one *match* in League.

| He's too short to play in the back 5 of the forwards and too inexperienced to be a front rower. Never going to happen

Welcome to the world of the Sydney press... Not much happens here, certainly not enough to sell the 3 newspapers and 4 tv channels with hungry news departments... 80 to 90% of the crap they spout is made up, and that which is true is stretched beyond recognition.

| I think we're quite lucky that he doesn't really have a position in Union. I'd be very surprised if they took a pint on him. He'd have to play in the forwards and that would take an awful lot of getting used to.
Non starter for me.

| RU desperate to get in the news? Apart from him being under contract and no evidence of any approach and he would be totally wasted getting his head stomped on in union it sounds plausible!

Burgess is taller than all the flankers and no.8's in the current England Union squad including the captain. And is only an inch or so smaller than the locks.
His size and weight aren't the issue, neither is his "experience" for prop. The reason he wouldn't play at prop is his body is not conditioned for the type of play of Union props ie scrums, lineouts, rucking and mauling, little free running or defence.
His body is conditioned far more toward a flanker or centre position in Union.
The same as you couldn't put a Union prop into a league team, they'd be embarrassed.
