| Right through to the next WC IMHO.
Now we have a set up and a structure in place which is seeing us make progress on the field.
If we keep faith with him I think he'll see us through to a major tournament win.

| I agree with all that.
he also needs to remain full time, more English players are inevitably going to go to the NRL,that being the case he will need to spend an awful lot of time down under having meeting and such like with these players

| Not a chance IMO
Mcnamara has put in some good structures that will benefit England hugely in the future. No club alliance, England knights etc
BUT
Mcnamara has had four years to prepare for this tournament. He has Been allowed to do it his way and given all the resources, yet we have been knocked out in the semi on home turf. He's taken the side as far as he can.
Mcnamara made some errors, te half back situation has effective been a joke for 3 years. One of our best players of the tournament in Ferres wasn't even in the original 25 man squad. The inclusion of T Burgess and Mossop handicapped us when it came to crunch time.
I don't see how we can reward him with a new contract when we have finished this in what is effectively a 3 team race/contest.
Tim Sheens called his sides win over England embarrassing. Yet some people think Mcmamra deserves a new contract for a good performance against NZ. That's why they're so much better than us.

I don't think you have understood the initial post properly.
None of the posters on this thread said Mcnamara deserved a new contract for a good performance against NZ.
Flex highlighted the setup and structure.
j.c. the time needed in Australia, and Big Dutch the lack of alternatives.
The reason Australia are better than us isn't our coach or our reaction to him. It's that they have better players. The work McNamara has done around training camps and the Knights and the squad is the good work he's done, and something that's going to help our players improve.

If we'd been well beaten, but we were 20 seconds away FFS. The margins of todays game were so fine, yet the opinions had we won would be so different. Margins as fine as that shouldn't produce such a big difference in opinion. E.g. if some of those fine margins had gone for us and we had won, your opinion above would be completly different.
Sometimes you need to look past the end game of things, instead of basing judgement solely on that.

| OMG.
Nurse sound the alarm the lunatics have escaped.
The set up and structure are in place and will be whether McNamara stays or goes.
The drain to Australia will now increase as RL in this country gets further into a financial mess.
We will need an coach and an assistant. They are likely to have to be on different continents. Why should the full time coach keep flying backwards and forwards. Why not have the Head coach in England and his trusted assistant in Australia
Do we need a full time coach. ?
We need a good coach who would be part time rather than a crap coach who is full time.
NOne of this should save McNamara he should resign or be sacked.

Wheras you are basing it on one good performance where we nearly won. You ignore the fact that if small percentages were the difference why did Sinfield and Widdop not play from the begining of the tournament. I reckon that would have given us TWO percent. According to many posters that would have been enough to win.
Who kept that two percent from the team by picking the wrong half backs for three years ?????????????????

We won't 20 seconds away though. The end goal was to win the thing and we had every chance of doing it. Yes it was Heartbreaking what happened today, Mcnamra had been preparing for this tournament for 3 years. And we have achieved the minimum. Even i could coach us to beat Ireland/Fiji/France. We could have avoided NZ in the semi had we beaten an under cooked OZ side. We lost that too despite a good effort. Mcnmaras record against NZ and OZ is very poor. I think he has won once at 7 attempts.
Time for someone to come in, freshen things up ad bring some New ideas while using some of the good things Mcnamara has done.

| The performance today wasn't due to the structures or team selection by McNamara. All this about him benefitting the team for years going forward is nonsense.
You want to know what caused the supposed improvement? It was purely having a few players playing in the NRL. That is the key thing. Graham and Burgess were sensational today and if they could get the likes of Watkins, Hall and Roby to join Tomkins in the NRL we'd get even better.
McNamara's big failing was the half backs. The call for Brought is the right one, he is the best British halfback there is and he's only not played for us today because of that idiot McNamara.
If England want to win against NZ and Australia they need to get a few young halfbacks playing in the NRL. That is what we're lacking. Then get a proper coach who can sort out the embarrassingly weak defense and we might get somewhere.

Please put me out of my mysery as I can't stand the tension, when are you starting the job, you seem to be such an expert. Just who do you think would do the job any better? or who would even want the job? We have just seen one belter of a game the perfect advert for the game, England have improved, International rugby has had a shot in the arm & yet folk are still not happy. Grow up.

I believe Tony Smith would have stayed on if it was part time ????
Paul Anderson would maybe do it Part time ??????
There would be plenty of coaches who would probably do it part time.
