| Every team has one and more often then not are probably not given the credit or respect they deserve. At Hull FC we have one Richard Whiting, who today played full back in a semi final and despite the interception had an awesome game. He slowly is beccomming an FC legend and has played in every position for the club.
Whilst in the past supporters have preferred players who dominate in one position I think the utility man is now a given in the modern day.

| We probably don't have one at the moment and its an area we need to look at IMO. It is so handy to have that option of throwing a player in to a number of different positions knowing they'll do equally as good a job in any of them.
Rumour has it we may have signed a bit of a utility player in Dan Sarginson next season. He's got plenty to work on but definitely has talent.

| Can't be many players who can do a good job in pretty much every position on the field. whiting could just as easily have slotted in at wing or prop yesterday

| With the exception being I wouldn't want to see him at full back (!), but for us Carl Ablett has played (and done well) at centre, second row, loose forward and even half back during one trip to Harlequins a few years ago.
I think it is becoming more and more the case that players so adaptable - the fitness yet size of some of the forwards and backs mean that they can in the modern game.

| I was saying myself yesterday how Whiting is the type of player every club should want.....not spectacular but is a good player to cover for numerous positions.
At Fartown i would probably say Michael Lawrence as he started as a centre, moved to the wing, then prop, 2nd row and loose forward.

| Mcdingle getting injured and whiting going to fullback won FC the game yesterday for me. Controlled the game from fullback and the play didn't slow down when the fullback got the ball like it normally does with Sharon.
Did FC a favour yesterday, whiting was immense.

| Whiting has, for some time in my opinion, been the most valuable player Hull have got. I'd love to see him play for the Giants
Probably one of the most underrated players in the game

| He is the ultimate Mr Fix It.
Named at loose, hooker gets injured, Whiting can cover it. Named at centre, two props down, stick Whiting in the front row. Our top 2 goal kickers are unavailable, yea Rich will do it.
But the impressive thing about him is he doesn't just fill a gap and muddle through, he knows every position inside out and plays like he has spent all his career there wherever you put him. It's a shame he's got lead boots, he would be an awesome player if he had a bit of pace too.

It is just that pace that holds him back from being an international IMO. I worried for Hull yesterday when I saw him going to fullback tbh but he certainly did a grand job. I thought he may get caught out for pace but he seems to just use his know how and experience to get him in the right positions. If he'd had a little bit more pace in attack a couple of times he'd have been away. You managed to open up some big holes down Wires left hand side at times.

Judging him on his time at Hull, I thought he did ok for us. Remember him filling in at half back against KR last year and had a stormer.
Think the problem with McGoldrick is he gets easily wound up rather then keeping composed.
Another name to throw into the hat would be Jon Wilkin who seems to have no problem moving from the back row to the halves should Saints require him to. How many positions has Ratchford played ? Seem to remember him at Centre, stand off , scrum half and full back.
Players like this must really make the difference on a clubs salary cap, one players wage as opposed to four or five players wages.

I thought Whiting already was an FC legend? He has been in my book for about 3 years anyway.
