In a final nail in the coffin of Championship credibility 31 year old Paul Wood and 24 year old Tyrone McArthy are set to play for Swinton on DR at the weekend!

In total there are 8 Warrington players in the 19 man squad which means that at least 6 will be in the matchday lineup...

I thought DR was all about opening up opportunities for young player to have higher level experience so I must have obviously missed some of the details to the new structure -

a) What happened to "under 22 years old"?
b) Isn't 4 the maximum a team can have?

Paul Wood: Was offered two weeks off to sort off field issues out I believe - Playing at Swinton to keep match fit

Tyke: Won't be in our first choice 19 this year at full strength, but will come in through injuries and squad rotation so needs to keep fresh.

Didn't know there was an overage rule for Dual Regs anymore? I thought the whole idea after dropping the U20's was that DR could be used to keep players over the age 19 match fit, and help those coming back from injury...?

I don't agree with the dropping of the U20's, but isn't this exactly how the system was due to be used?

As I posted on the other threads about this on here , the next ' step ' in this system will be complete squads of SL juniors [ 18-20 yr olds ] being loaned to Championship clubs , then supplemented by 5 DR reserves with the Championship club only having 6/7 actual players of their own

Game over

Do feel for the championship sides. They will be cheering for a different team every week.

Quote: Alf7 "Paul Wood

I think you are missing the point - from a Championship fan's viewpoint it makes a mockery of the whole season.

Only 4 or 5 teams (Fev, Fax, Sheffield, Leyth and perhaps Batley) are now genuine, stand alone clubs and the outcome of the league could be decided if one of these comes up against Swinton, York, Hunslet on a weekend when Wire, Hull or Leeds have a free weekend...

But if it is in the interest of Super League then what the hell....

So do I, its a ridiculous situation for the championship league. Whoever botched this up needs to be accountable.

I reckon within 5 years Superleague will go down to 10 teams, then the rest of rugby league will need to re invent itself.

Barrow don't have a link up with a SL club either.

I don't see why it's a problem. The dual reg players will only play for the Championship clubs if they are better players than those they already have, surely?

Being an official feeder team isn't a problem either. They still play at their own ground, in their own colours. What does it matter if the players are contracted to and paid by a Super League club? It happens in a lot of other sports in the world. The NRL is set up in this way I think, with the top amateur leagues over there affiliated with clubs in the NRL.

If anything you could argue that it improves the Championship as the players will be of a higher standard, both in terms of ability and their professional approach to the sport. They will be training full time as well. To get into a Championship side now a player attached to a Championship club will have to be better than any of the young players and reserves at the Super League club. This will help the Championship's own players strive to improve, just to get into the team. Those that make way will drop down, further improving the quality found in the next division and it will filter down like that?

It matters if you have been brought up in the belief that the money you spend to support YOUR team and YOUR town will create an opportunity to reach the pinnacle of your sport.

Being a super dooper league fan you won't get it... unless you have a Bradford/Salford moment...

As a fan of a SL club, indeed the one in question here, I take offence at that. I completely get it, and would be well peed off in your shoes. I, and a fair few other Wire fans, think the system is ridiculous (and we're benefiting from it!), but equally there seems to be some Swinton fans who are quite happy.

As an RL first, and Wire fan second, I agree with te SL concept, and the franchise principles. However, I'd like to see a strong championship, and for the heartlands club to have an identity outside SL, and something to strive for- though rather than SL status, success in their own vibrant comp first should be the aim IMO.

And the comp was ' vibrant ' if not completely worth winning in its own right , but now even that is being diluted , for the benifit of SL , bloody marvelous
