www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/ap ... -rabbitohs

Apparently Madge will be going to South Sydney at the end of the season. He currently has a 3 year contract but may have a get out clause.

It's fairly obvious that he will be leaving in the next couple of years to the NRL but how soon will it come? He has expressed an interest in coaching over there and clubs seem to want him so surely it's only a matter of time.

The bit that interests me is that Shaun Edwards is in the running to take over. I would have thought that Shaun Wane would be the best choice as a lot of Maguire's knowledge has been passed down to him.

What do you guys think?

I think it would be great to see Edwards back in our game (not saying he should get the Wigan job over Wane but it is probably the only job that would bring Edwards back)

It would be brilliant to have Edwards back, the man's a rugby league legend.

That a legend like Edwards should be paraded around by the Rah Rahs is nothing short of scandalous. He should be involved in the sport that made him.

Edwards has been out of the game for what ten years? Times (and RL) have changed. He may not be the messiah....

Just been on evening news here in New Zealand (weds),that Michael Mcguire WILL be at Souths next season and that he has a get out clause in his contract should a NRL team come in for him.

Not so sure.

A few years ago before Maguire came to the club i would of been happy to give Edwards a shot at Wigan but much of that would of been down to my frustrations at the time with Brian Noble and his inability to take Wigan forward.

My expectations have changed massivley since Maguire arrived and caused a revolution at Wigan - make no mistake about it - we are not talking about subtle changes to the team under Maguire - from speaking to people close to the club he just about changed everything - including the culture.

To now revert to a coach who has been out of the game for so long and has not been involved in the game at the highest level concerns me.

Good post.

Edwards was a legend as a player.

Legendary players don't make good coaches as Ellery Hanley proved.

Most on our board seem pretty convinced that he will be leaving at the end of the season. As for Edwards i'd love to see him back in the game but i don't see how he can come back as a SL head coach having spent so long in Union. I understand he would rather stay down south as that's where his child is.

I think Wane would be better served staying as assistant for another couple of years (maguire did 5 years at melbourne). I don't want him to turn into another Dennis Betts and get the top job too soon.

Maguire isnt daft. He knows his tactics have been found out so hes getting out. When wigan finish nowhere this season, he can blame it on his head not being right.

Wane seems an amiable bloke but I dont think hes the guy to turn wigans fortunes around next season

Wane is a good assistant but he ain't the man to take over if Wigan wanna stay at the top. I am afraid that Wigan would have to look to the NRL again for someone.

Yeah......because TCGW and TVNZ1 are the pinnacle of International Reporting. icon_wink.gif

I have already said that Ian Lenegan will have loaded the "real money" at the tail end of the 3 yr contract.....If Maguire does leave, it will have to be for a lot of money.......and that is IF he has an escape clause in the contract.
