news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 387114.stm
its been speculated on here for a while that this was the reason but here it is.
like expansion or loathe it the fact remains a team was moved from south wales to save a bloody fooseball team.
The RFL have allowed a team from the premier northern hemisphere competition be sold and transfered to save a failing team of a different sport.
SHAME ON YOU!!!!

| That is clearly the reason that Wrexham Football Club have shown the interest. They have used to their advantage the fact that they are in the same country as a franchise set up at the other end of the country! Iif Chester City had made the same attempt I presume they wouldnt have been considered even though they are only about 5-10 miles away.
The situation shows the real problem we have in attempting to expand the game. You need serious financial backing from people prepared to invest time and money into promoting and developing the game. Wrexham FC in their current predicament are looking to generate cash and will be anticipating clubs such as St Helens, Wigan and Leeds will bring thousands of supporters to the Racecourse Ground. In the short term this may well work but long term, not a chance. Meanwhile the clubs, and spectators, in the National League look on in dismay.

When will Widnes fans give up this Crusaders bashing?

They're actually quite positive on their own forum, sceptical of what Moss is up to but there is almost no bagging of RL which you would get down south.
The problem for me is the youth development, they cannot expect to get much from down south any more meaning they will have to set up completely new systems where there is virtually no RL played which will take years. The pressure on South Wales RLFC to produce Welsh players will be great.

| It also claims that there will be 10000 coming through the gate for RL yet just 1800 for football. Strikes me that if that were to be the case the football club would not be the one calling the shots.
I am a little sceptical but I fail to see why we are getting our knickers in a twist. If it works then fantastic. The welsh might, just might take to our great sport. If it doesn't then they will be cut after the next round of franchise applications and given up as a bad job. The game needs enthusiastic people willing to pump cash into it. If that is in Wrexham or Devon or Southend I don't care so long as the game benefits. What we don't want is the RFL bailing them out every 6 months like in London.

| A bit optimistic to expect 4000 Leeds fans to travel 80 odd miles in the gloom of mid winter, even if it is the season opener.Such a following is usually taken for their games at Bradford,Wakefield and Cas.

Or is Cheshire Wales with some funny street names....
I've always found it strange whenever I go that direction they seem to speak to each other in this sort of gobbledigook language, sounds like they're clearing their throats out.

| Doesn;t bode well when the main motivation is to keep the soccer club afloat! I'd be insisting they spend max salary cap or I can see SL funds finding there way to other parts of the organisation!

Yes but you can't exactly travel too far in the other direction before you run into similar problems. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8MwOUTOVuo

| I think this spells the end of the Crusaders 'experiment'. Will the RFL ever learn to stop biting the hands off of the first business men that come waving a big wad of cash?? Hell we might aswell get Steven Vaughan involved back in the game again at this rate.

| I can see a lot of Warrington fans making the short trip, it's only 45 minutes by car or 1 hour 15 minutes by train (with a change) that is shorter than trips to Yorkshire and Hull.
Why not go into an area with untapped potential, the local Rugby Union and football is strong in South Wales so it makes sense to try and put roots in North Wales.
