| Suck eggs AFL.
The NRL Grand Final won by the Melbourne Storm has out-rated the AFL Grand Final. It was the second time in three years the NRL Grand Final has out-rated the AFL game, thanks to the presence (and eventual victory) of the Melbourne Storm in the final match of the season.
The Storm won the match played in Sydney and watched by 3.490 million people across all TV markets on the Nine Network. In Australia: 2.46 million viewers watched in the five metro markets, with 1.119 million on average watching Sydney, 650,000 in Melbourne and 535,000 watched Brisbane.

| I think he needs a proofreader.
[i... both codes need the presence of one out of Sydney/Melbourne Club.
The AFL’s biggest audiences were in 2005 and 2006 for the epic Sydney Swans/West Coast Eagles matches, one once by each club.[/i

| The NRL has won the ratings 3 years in a row.It just goes to show the popularity of our sport , especially when all you hear how AFL is so dominant in OZ .Well I can tell you Rugby League the greatest game of all is running rings around them and so it should we have a better product. And also I can tell you that back in 2005 the tigers and cowboys GF had a massive audience of 900k plus in Melbourne, yes 900k and no Melbourne storm playing either. There as you can see the AFL is running 2nd,the ratings just proves it.

| Well Rugby League has FOUR games every year that rate like Grand Finals......other sports would kill for that.
Its pretty terrible the coverage Melbourne got. Nine cut away from the game a few minutes after the final siren, they didn't get to see the trophy presentation.
And apparently the biased commentary went down a treat down there. Talk back was all over it in Melbourne today.
By the way it was only 50 minutes into the 7 hours of Grand Final coverage before Channel Nine did a special presentation on....itself!

| The AFL's biggest problem is the fact they have blanket coverage in Australia and they are still number 2.
The NRL can expand into Perth, Adelaide and the like. Where can the afl expand too?

| Why are Australian RL fans so infatuated with AFL? Makes English RL fans take on RU seem trivial!
I think it is a Sydney thing as I don't hear AFL fans carrying on about NRl or even RL fans in Q'land carry on as much as NSW fans do about AFL!
Anyway back to the topic, pretty amazing to see that Melbourne outrated Brisbane for viewers and peaked at nearly a million! Makes Ch9's claims that people outside of NSw and Q'land aren;t interested in watching RL seem very foolish!

| An observation is that in Victoria they seem to have sports loving fans unlike our resident one eyed drum beating, trumpet blowers in Dally M and Manlywhatever, as in Victoria they actually watch a rival code and therefore increased the (highly open to error) TV viewing figures.
You should thank these Victorians who aren't that interested down there, as some of them viewed the game purely on the back of there being a Melbourne team playing.
