HISTORICAL FIRST AUSTRALIAN RUGBY LEAGUE TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA
The Australian universities side will be arriving at Oliver Tambo airport on Thursday 16 July 2009 for their three match tour of South Africa.
The team will consist of 18 players and 8 Officials.
The Australian Universities tour of South Africa is very historical as it will be the first time in history that an Australian Rugby League side visits South Africa.
Previous encounters between Australia and South Africa were:
1963 in Australia when the “League Boks” toured Australia and New Zealand.
1995 World Cup in England when the Rhinos met Australia for the first time.
The Australian Universities side will be arriving in South Africa on 16th.July 2009 and will play three(3) matches on their tour. Viz
Saturday 18 July vs.SA Rhinos( Ikageng Stadium, Potchefstroom)(Kick off 2h30pm)
Wednesday 22 July vs. SA Rhinos A (Bosman Stadium, Brakpan)(kick off 7h00pm)
Saturday 25 July vs. Tuks/Bulls (JU stadium, Johannesburg)(kick off 2h30pm)
The match at Potchefstroom will be the “test match “ of the tour when the South African Rhinos play against the touring side.
The purpose of the Australian Universities tour is to introduce Rugby League to South African Universities.
South African Rugby League is confident that the next RLIF Students World Cup will include Rhino Students.
South African Rugby League is also investigating the possibilities to host a Students World cup in future.

| Oh man, not this sh*t again.
Look, they do not play Rugby League in South Africa. Rugby Union types will have a dabble when there is a bit of cash floating around, but outside of that, the game does not exist over there.

So what you're saying is let's not even try to widen and promote the game cos some rugger types might be involved!! never mind that they might enjoy it and want to continue at some level..or shall we just chuck the towel in ?

| Strange how I watched SA play in England last year.
|
|
|
|
| Did you even read what I said?
Union types over there only decide to play the occasional game when they can get something out of it.
And make no mistake, they never want the game to go anywhere. They go out of their way to make sure Rugby league doesnt exist over there.

| mate they have had about 50 different web sites in the last ten years claiming all the same sh*t.
I'm just here trying to stop people being dragged into it. The game is not played there in any capacity.

| Look you can get sucked into it all if you like, but Ive just been around for long enough to have seen the same stories being ran out from that country for so long.
If something actually was happening, I'd be the first to talk about it. But nothing is happening there.

| Considering that SA have previously played in World Cups were they involved in any way in the last WC qualifiers?

Its a gorup of players looking for an away trip. They found some ruggers that will play Rugby League for a few games....so why not go over for the experience.
