| 1) Warn supporters that the ground was very cold unless you were sat in the sun. By the 3rd game I was shivering
2) Standardise ticket prices at £20/£10- you could go anywhere with any ticket
3) Maybe move it to the 2nd bank holiday in May? Weather may be a bit wamer
4) The cost of food + drink was horrific- £6 for burger + chips. £3.50 for 330ml of cider- cheaper vans are required
5) Start the sunday games at 11.30. Last train south was 8.45 from Haymarket/ 8pm if travelling back to Yorkshire/ Lancashire
6) The focus on the mascots was very OTT. They ran out before every game
I did think it was a very enjoyable day out on the whole.

It was Scotland, in May. That was warm, you were lucky it wasn't snowing...
But seriously what would it have been like in any stadium?
Quote: loyalsince1904 "2) Standardise ticket prices at £20/£10- you could go anywhere with any ticket '"
You can't safety rules won't allow it.

It may be, on the other hand it could p**s down for three days, you can't go arranging events like that. Here's a novel idea, bring something warm.
Quote: loyalsince1904 "4) The cost of food + drink was horrific- £6 for burger + chips. £3.50 for 330ml of cider- cheaper vans are required '"
That is standard for major event catering, you were allowed to bring in food and (non-alcoholic) drinks
Quote: loyalsince1904 "5) Start the sunday games at 11.30. Last train south was 8.45 from Haymarket/ 8pm if travelling back to Yorkshire/ Lancashire '"
Book a hotel or a club trip then, the whole idea was fans staying in an area and having fun.

More so that some freezing dancers doing the same routine between each game? Those that didn't like it got off their @rses and moved around, bought some food, talked to other fans etc...

| It would have looked better for TV if they'd shut off one of the stands altogether.
and I think the derby's have to come back, 4 a season was silly, but 3 a season would be just about right.
I'd also move it to the 2nd weekend in May, where there is less competition for media coverage, and it'd be further away from the easter derby round.

Why does it have to look good on TV? and why would it look any better with one stand completely empty?

Apart from the wall to wall coverage for the football playoffs you mean?

| I think SKY should review their policy of having the reff mic'd up.I must have heard 'Moooooooooooooove' 500 times over the weekend and am now having a long lie down in a dark room. They sound like some idiot doing farmyard impressions.
Edited to replace a word that some people find offensive, and I have had a complaint about. Mintball

you support a side that doesn't have a proper derby, so i don't expect you to understand. The hype that any derby generates in any of the RL towns which promotes the event even further and bigger crowds would have gone from Hull/Rovers, Leeds/Bradford and Cas/Wakefield IMO
and the football league playoffs are only 2 games on the saturday and the sunday, and neither of these generate a great amount of publicity. Last years league2 final was Stockport-Rochdale, do you really think the magic weekend can't steal some coverage from a game like that?
instead of it battling for coverage against a whole round of football league games, 8 premiership games, a ricky hatton fight, RU european semi final...

| i think they need to move the weekend to further in the year when its a little warmer,i was their for all the games and by the third game i was frozen to the bone has were the kids who to be quite honest had enough and if it wasnt for the fact our coach wasnt leaving until the last game i would have left well before.
id also say the rfl should look at running shuttle buses into the city so people can get away from the rugby and enjoy the city if they choose without worrying about been ripped off by taxis.
the weekend away for me and my family was really enjoyable we stayed at strathclyde park where there is a theme park which was very reasonably priced has was the hotel and was a great base for the weekend with anyone with kids with loads to do, the downside was the day at murrayfield for various reasons and i do feel that we after bring back the derby games for the weekend and look after the supporters with kids and make it more comfortable for them.

What more would you want done for the kids? There was stuff outside in the fanzone why wasn't that enough?
Also for getting away during the day what was wrong with using the normal shuttle buses? We never waited longer than 10/12 minutes for one which is impressive given how busy it is. Why would the RFL pay for more buses when there's a perfectly good service already running?
As for the weather, it's cold in the shade that's to be expected. The weather was also warm early on which makes it feel colder later on - nothing a jumper and jacket wouldn't solve though.

The Rovers v FC game was the worst game each year at Cardiff and they were run close by Wigan v Saints games, derbies work home and away, they don't work at a neutral venue.
Crowd sizes for this compared favorably with the last two years of derby fixtures so you comments about more fans are just hypothesis

The Championship play gets wall to wall coverage regardless of what day it is on. The SPL comes to an end that weekend too, along with the French Open, Heineken Cup and any number of one off events.

| I was impressed with Edinburgh, but how big were the houses surrounding murrayfield? They were huge!
Anyway, what really annoyed me was the parking. I ended up driving 3 miles out and still saw cones in the road so I turned around and ended up catching lucky and parking on a road half a mile from the stadium.
Still, it needs decent parking for those travelling for the day via car.
