In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

| If I can offer a weakness, it is at prop. Considering Weyman is so injury and suspension prone, you're left with Poore and Hunt as experienced first-graders and Hunt is really still only borderline experienced.
Other than that, it looks good.

[quote="Saddened":15kig0eg]Pat Richards is poop. A typical, average, run of the mill NRL outside back. Nothing special at all. Like Barrett he is a myth. He is solid enough, he can catch, he can kick goals.[/quote:15kig0eg]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_7958.jpg |

In brighter news for the Panthers, the club is the equal favourite, with St George Illawarra, to snare Todd Carney to a long-term deal from the 2010 season onwards. It is understood the banished former Canberra Raiders playmaker will make a bid to play for the NSW Cup feeder side of whatever NRL club he joins.

BRETT MORRIS, Neville Costigan, Mathew Head and Mickey Paea have missed out on St George Illawarra's first NRL team under Wayne Bennett for Friday night's season opener against Melbourne at Olympic Park.
Australian World Cup star Darius Boyd, who followed Bennett from Brisbane to the Dragons, has won the fullback spot ahead of Morris and Kiwi international Jason Nightingale, who will start on the wing.
Having already placed his trust in Ben Hornby to lead the Dragons as captain and halfback, Bennett named Boyd at fullback - thrusting teenage talent Chase Stanley into the centres. However, the former Broncos flyer revealed his shift to fullback was not necessarily permanent.
