| As it is the end of the season, am I alone in thinking that the Super League (and Challenge Cup) are well established but under-exploited brands.
Given the athletes and sport we have, why don't we have :
Super League Airline Partner
Super League Beer
Super League Telecommunications Partner
Super League Travel Partner
Super League Energy Drink Partner (Lucozade/Powerade)
ETC - repeat for CC
THe RLIF seem to be making a decent go of the RLWC - it is not time to get the same marketing agency to apply some thought to the above and other areas where these commercial "properties" can be utilised - and more of the rugby league of the extraordinary type campaigns, please.

| Well seeing as we can't even get a main sponsor who actually pay us...

| Cas have a drinks partner - Gatorade, and I'm sure a lot of other teams do too.
Amazingly, teams individually (especially Wigan) probably have better marketing teams than the RFL do.

| Yeah, memo to Nigel.
Either put down the fork, or stay off the camera.
You’re not doing our sport any favours in our endeavours to remove the shackles of our cloth cap, pigeon fancying, slovenly northern image.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m no sizeist, however, it’s just not a good look.
Maybe it’s part of the grand plan to get Weighchers on board as the main sponsor, they could have tiny pictures of our finest players on their cake bars.

| Believe it or not, the RFL had something close to that.
We've had deals with Carlsberg Tetley, even when they weren't the title sponsor and I remember Emirates having prominant branding at most if not all SL grounds.
That's what would concern me more as the RFL - not the lack of a title sponsor per se but the number of sponsors who have left the sport in recent years. Last year we had partnerships with the likes of Emirates, William Hill, Holiday Inn and De Walt - all of who have vanished.

| I thought we had the lad who single handedly transformed Manchester City into a multi-billion turnover business running the marketing effort at the RFL now? Surely he can pull a few strings and get some multi nationals on board (Etihad would be a good start).

I thought it was Man United he came from.

| Memo to critical fans
So if you don't like decisions made around the above subject areas, perhaps memos to the clubs would be more appropriate than to Nigel Wood?

you've got to be impressed with them suits and waistcoats he wears. I mean there's some material gone into them.
AND, bear in mind, they're probably tailored to make him look slimmer, so, just think about that.

| I think that 2013 will be a big season for the game and it is time to have some ambition in terms of marketing the sport properly :
- SBW and Folau have returned in Australia - how much is SBW in a New Zealand shirt worth in RLWC ticket sales - just down to his sheer X Factor - 40,000 at Elland Road for the Bulldogs v Rhinos WCC etc
- the NRL cleans up in Australia - its main sponsor, Telstra being the equivalent of BT - watch an NRL game and all the sponsors are A list as RL is the Premier League equivalent in Australia. Even the balls are sponsored by Powerade.
- BBC Sport are in Salford - a natural win in terms of raising the profile
- even in the UK, there are lots of Northern headquartered substantial concerns - Peel Holdings, Leeds Building Society, Skipton Building Society, Tetleys, Yorkshire Bank - who should share the values of the game
- the RL demographic appeals to Irn Bru (Barrs), Gillette - there must be other mainstream banks (HSBC, Lloyds) whose customer base is predominantly a RL audience - middle income families with savings/deposit accounts
- the World Cup is a huge opportunity on the back of the Olympics - provided it is a big event based on the 2008 template in Australia
Time to bang the drum and market the Sinfields, Halls, Tomkins and Watkins as ambassadors for the game and role models - to which sponsors can be aligned

| I see Rugby League dazed, in the centre of the ring, and Nigel Wood in a one-shoulder-strap leotard, emblazoned with Stobart adverts, climbing up the turnbuckles onto the top rope, ready for the "splash", 12 old farts from the RFU chanting "Easy, Easy". Should I get out more?
