| Leigh have just confirmed the great man's departure for Castleford in 2012.
Cas' have pulled off a master-stroke in my opinion.

| Yep, he's a great appointment, if you let him succeed.
The Cas' fans big-club mentality is baffling me. Where does this come from?
I'd like to hear what some big clubs fans think? Would Leeds, Bradford, Hull, Wigan or Saints have taken him as their next coach?

I don't reckon the Bulls or Leeds would complain about an injection of Millward at the moment.
Has his strengths and his weaknesses, but he's taking over a good squad so it will be interesting to see how he goes, especially given the salary cap is having a much bigger impact now than when he had his success at Saints.
Cas fans can certainly expect a rollercoaster next year.

Tbh. I don't think it's a "big club mentality" - more annoyance by some at his media work (constantly tipping Cas to lose when we were flying high early in the season, suggesting the m word for Cas and Wakey).
Personally, I'm happy with the appointment: his record at both Saints and Leigh speaks for itself.

Like In tried to say to the Cas fans, the 'M' word to someone who isn't emotionally involved means something different:
To Cas and Wakey fans, it means sleeping with the enemy and both clubs die.
To Ian Millward, an ex-Illawarra player, who's Dad and Uncle both worked at St.George when the two clubs merged-it means the best team in the world emerged from it.

| Millward is a fantastic coach. Cas just need to bare with him as he will change things to his own methods which may lead to a period where they appear lost and cop a few hammerings. But given time he'd make Cas better than they are now.

He'd never be able to return to Wigan, too much ill-feeling there.

| Good appointment if you ask me. Millward was set up to fail at Wigoon with all the away games he had in the first half of the season he had with them (think he had something like two home games and nine away in the first eleven games of the season he left). I'd certainly have him ahead of Noble, Kear and Morgan.

| I can't make up my mind.
His teams were sliding pretty alarmingly at Saints before he left, then there was the disaster at Wigan (although I maintain had he been able to field the sort of squads Noble was able to - with returning injured players and signings - the end result would have been the same).
I have a sneaky feeling his time has been and gone and that he won't be an improvement on Matterson (who IMO has done a tremendous job there).

Really ? Well don't let the facts get in the way of your perception of his time at Saints will you....
2000 - Grand Final win
2001 - Cup Final win and World Club Challenge
2002 - Grand Final win and a Cup Final defeat
2003 - World Club defeat but his one season without success
2004 - Cup Final win
2005 - 11 wins from 13 league & cup games before being sacked for 'misconduct'....yep, on the slide
If I were a Cas' fan I'd be delighted that they had just appointed the club's best coach for decades - possibly since Reilly or even Derek Turner. Much better than Raper or Matterson, anyway.
His heart just wasn't in it at Wigan (too soon after leaving Saints in such circumstances) but he will be refreshed, hungry and motivated to prove a lot of people wrong at Castleford - and he has some tremendous young talent to work with. They will only get better under him and the 'derbies' with Leeds will be something else now.

When at Wigoon Raper had Millward in his back pocket, including an against-the-odds cup final win.

| The worst coach Wigan have had in their entire Super League history. Destroyed the confidence of our young players and made some absolute abysmal, utterly abysmal transfers.
Shocked he has been given the post at Castleford. I hope he fails miserably.

2002 - 1st & GF win (breaching the salary cap)
2003 - 4th, 13 points behind Bradford, beaten 3 times by Wigan in SL
2004 - 5th, 15 points behind Leeds, 2 losses and a draw against Wigan in SL
2005 - Sacked, with another loss to Wigan thrown in beforehand.
Looks like a pretty decent slide to me.
