James Graham, according to the BBC's Dave Woods on Twitter.

Seems a strange choice considering his recent displays of petulism.

| It's the only choice. He is the senior player in that setup and is the only natural leader.
His 'recent displays of petulism' have been 100% justifiable given that they were all in reaction to horrendous refereeing decisions. There has never been an incident where Jammer has had a go at a ref where he has not been right. The ones in the Grand Final had Castleford fans blowing up purple about how the ref could possibly be so blind.
He'll be a good captain for England. One of very few there who actually care what happens IMO.

| Yeah just seen that. Can't say I see the logic. He embarrassed himself in the Grand Final and doesn't have the temperament for Captain based on recent history.
However, if we want a purple-faced ginner throwing strops when things don't go his way, then he's the man.
Question is, can the RFL afford the freight to ship his dummies out there?

Saints fan per chance? I think Graham is a great player but the recent daft stuff has let him down. Should have had a yellow card for the GF outburst imo.

The senior player ? More so than O'Loughlin or Ellis ?
As for tantrums when the ref has been wrong, the point is that in all my years of watching RL I have never seen a referee change a decision based on a player throwing a tantrum over it. Refs make wrong calls all the time, some go your way and some don't. You accept the good and the bad and just get on with it, Graham has an inherent inability to do so judging by his often OTT reactions. Not good captaincy material in my view.

Is that really the direction you want our sport to go in?

Captaincy is how he inspires those around him. He is clearly better at that than most. When Saints should have been going through a horrendous rebuilding phase like Wigan and Bradford did he (Along with KC) lifted the club on his broad shoulders and carried it for 3 or 4 years.
O'Loughlin is another candidate. McBanana and his cronies clearly didn't feel he was the right man. They will know which player carries the most respect amongst the group and gone with that man. That man is Graham. Ellis isn't a big enough character to be a captain, he's too quiet.

| Good appointment really. Of course the wigan fans will be disapointed that Sean O Loughlin wasnt named captain but do we really need another Andy Farrell type captain? One who will just stand there with his hands on his hips, staring into space everytime the aussies score a try?
Players like Jammer, Morley and peacock are the type of players you need as captain.

| Could there also be the possibility that O'Loughlin isn't in the starting 13?

Murphy and Tommy Bishop used to question calls and so did Hanley... In fact Hanley was once dismissed for dissent. Would you doubt [i their[/i leadership?
An absolute no brainer to me - Graham was the natural choice and can actually string a sentence together. If everyone can muster the same pride and energy that he exhibits then that will be a good start.

Throwing tantrums isnt showing passion (although i do think he is passionate and inspirational with his play and work rate). Football fans mistake shouting at referees for being passionate when it is not. RL does not need to go down that road.

| If every England player approached the game with the same attitude "problems" as Jammer, we wouldn't have copped so many hidings in recent years.
Automatic pick in the team, one of the more experienced players in the side despite his age and leads by example. Good choice.
