| What would happen if the tackle rule was changed to 5 or 7?
When the rules were changed from unlimited to 4 and then 6, players were slower, not as fit, part time etc. etc. So could a fundamental change in the rules improve the game?
Personally I don't thnk so, but is it something that has been considered?

| If you had less there would be a lot more kicks for position rather than attacking kicks as the team would more often than not be stuck around the halfway line.

| You wouldnt change the rules of the game based on what is good for SL.
The competition is so average, it would be like the NBA changing their rules because the scores are a bit high in the Penrith A Grade competition.

| We could go back to do as they used to..............Yorkshire teams using their big fat bellied forwards, to stick it up their jumpers, and run two paces, then fall over [i'ad infinitum'[/i.
It was bloody boring stuff.
Queue all the Yorkshire fans, who never saw this type of rugby, to make comments.

| One rule i would love to see changed is the knock on rule, if you drop the ball it's a knock on, no matter if it goes back.

What would happen if you intend to offload, it hits the floor (travelling backwards) and a teammate picks it up on the bounce / falls on it?

| The two rule changes I would like to see will probably get no support from anyone on here but anyway.
First of all I don't like the 40-20 rule at all. It just kind of seems gimicky to me and is a get out of jail card for teams who havn't been able to clear their line. People say it rewards good kicks, well first of all pinning the opposition in their own 20 is a reward in itself and secondly it punishes teams who have defended well and kept the other side in their own half.
The other one is the video ref. Get rid of it. First of all it is only at 2 games a week and so is not fair to every team, and even if it is there its hardly fool proof and you get a lot of strange decisions. Not only that but it causes big breaks in play. Untill they have it at every game and can find a way of making it an exact art they may as well just say that what teh ref says goes. At least it is teh same for every side then.

That wouldn't count as a knock on because the pass was intended, im talking about receiving and dropping the ball.

| The biggest rule change I'd love to see is an adjustment of the rulings on penalties.
If you are caught offside, obviously the opposition are given a penalty ( resulting in a 30m gain with the kick to touch and then an extra set of 6 )
Instead of this I would downgrade it to the next tackle being made a null tackle so therefore the oppositon gets 7 tackles instead of 6 in their set.
If the defending team transgress again in the same set of 6 ( or 7) then give the full penalty.
This is my main bone of contention as I believe referees constantly ignore offsides because they know that penalising a trivial offense like this can result in major swings in a game.
Other alternatives include the "lying on" penalty where again firstly give an extra tackle and then fully penalise. This would hopefully persuade referees to penalise this offense more often whilst giving more advantage to the team who are being slowed down.
Thoughts ???
