| Bear with me, as I'm just experimenting here. There's been much guff about who did and didn't vote for and against Brexit. For example, the media is portraying the average Brexit voter as a poor unemployed working-class person in a Labour constituency, yet we know that most Labour voters and working-age voters went for Remain, while most Tories and pensioners voted Leave. Further research, like the piece here rlhttps://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/personal-values-brexit-vote/rl suggests that the best predictor of whether a person voted Remain or Leave was their broader social attitudes. So, for example, support for the death penalty was a much better predictor of a Leave vote than social class. Which gave me to thinking that while there's not much to do till the Four Nations starts, I might see if we can find a correlation between how people voted in the referendum, and attitudes to expansion of RL. It'd be interesting to me, anyway.

Not really. I'm just testing a theory. I read a lot of threads here (don't comment on many any more), and there's a common theme of - generalising wildly - two broad groups of people: the first who tend to be pro-expansion/pro-licensing, and a second who tend to be sceptical of expansion and pro P&R. I'm interested to see if there's a correlation with Brexit views. I'm interested in the idea that the sort of "values" politics so long in existence in the USA, has now arrived in the UK with a bang, with a main battleground between small "c" conservatives and small "l" liberals, rather than the old economic battleground of Conservatives versus Labour.
It seemed to me that we may have our very own version of that "values" split within the RLFans community. We might not, of course. But it's not like there's much else to talk about at the moment.

| Not sure about your two broad groups.
I'm very pro expansion but I believe in P and R and that the game in new areas has to grow organically (with a lot of support from the RFL). I voted Remain.
Don't know if that helps.

I'm of a similar ilk. I voted remain but want the RFL to pump money into development officers and developing amateur clubs not just amateur teams all over the uk

| Given that the value of GBP has dropped it's going to be rather unlikely that we will see a positive outcome for the sport (or any of society), but in terms of expansion will this make earning in Euros or Aussie dollars better? Probably, increasing the pattern of Super League being a feeder for the southern leagues.
Gate attendances will no doubt drop as people find other inflationary pressures taking precedence over entertainment.

Yes, I found phrasing the question tricky (lesson there for future referenda!). People don't fit into neat categories. If there was a specific issue like, say, a proposal to fast-track Toronto or similar into SL, it'd be much easier to ask the question. I did think afterwards of making the expansion question "I think the RFL should prioritise new areas over the heartlands for support", but I can't find a way to edit the poll questions!

I voted against the EU in the first vote and the 2nd vote 2 yrs later at last I got my wish to vote leave but back to your vote I think if it was done correct P and R would be the best and still let in the overseas teams but let them start in the bottom tier like they are doing now

Although I agree in principle with P/R, I just dont think it works with a sport where it is looking to expand.
The first thing that any organisation wants is stability and even IF a club could start at the bottom (Like Toronto or Toulouse, in their second coming), the risk of relegation and the hit that they would take financially, seems to make the gamble too big.
Having said that, if the new clubs coming in are heavily bank rolled, perhaps they can throw enough money at their clubs to "guarantee" promotion to and survival in the top flight.
The one certainty is thet RL simply has to grow, just to lift it's profile or, we will be left with a fringe sport along the M62 corridor.
THe franchise model still seems the best wat forward but, with some more stringent management from the RFL

And is that where the sports ambitions should start and finish ?
Even football, probably the globes "biggest" game is trying to expand but, many RL fans would rather our game shrink back into the heartlands and then complain that we dont have any money and never get any media exposure etc, etc.
The game is being played up and down the UK, we just lack the vision to capitalise on this
Without decent exposure, how do we attract more players, sponsors etc into the game or, should we be happy as a "pub" sport.

| As a non-Brit I could not vote, but I would have voted remain. I am for expansion, especially in France, Canada and the USA. If we can get a number of professional clubs into Super League from France (Toulouse, Avignon, Paris), Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver) and the USA, then our game will explode internationally. I foresee the much promised USA professional league (announced by David Niu before it ever had a chance), as the outcome of a successful televised expansion of the game into France and Canada.

| I would rather see SL thrive in it's current first, it's hardly going from strength to strength at the minute is it? on which would perhaps be a basis for major expansion if it was. Too many loons like Jean who want to run before you can walk...it's the walking part that RL has never quite been able to manage unfortunately when it comes to growing the sport.
