Because the crimes were committed two years ago. Timoteo Simona's sins are now old news. The more important point now, as the article points out, is that he is begging for forgiveness and the chance at redemption.

| I do not see why not. The concept of redemption is traditionally part of western culture and being able to show true remorse and to earn the right to a second chance is a valuable aspect of our society. Unfortunately modern society seems to hold a contrary view that forgiveness is only for those in the in crowd so that even a single remark, from years before, will see you pilloried if you are not in the right clique whilst if you are one of the favoured few you can get away with murder and still be lauded for it.
Personally I find the aspect of his behaviour which was most obnoxious was the defrauding of charities rather than the betting because I dislike those who prey on the weakest. Having said that if we are willing to give other rule breakers the benefit of the doubt we can extend the same here. He has not murdered anyone and is not a threat to the well being of those around him. One interesting issue is that the ban is indefinite rather than life according to the text. This suggests that the governing body foresaw a route back into the game for the player.

Genuine rugby league fans, because the player in question is a real talent.

No it’s just a name you’ve pulled out of the air to start yet another meaningless thread. It could be anyone.

| The dude can't even get a gig in the boxing ring that speaks volumes. Plus he hasn't played in 2 years and as one of his own mates says, Beau Ryan, " I believe at some stage he does need a second chance. “Whether that’s playing? Probably not, to be honest, I can’t see him playing on the field again".
I know we've become a place for a few 'bad boys' from the NRL to resurrect their career but come on.

"Bad Boy" Gregory Bird has done a great job resurrecting his career in the south of France. So why can't Timoteo Simona?
Whether it be in London or Hull is not the important issue here.

As a guess, I'd say because Bird had no time away from the game and he's a far better player.

Resurrecting his career? He has been nothing special since he re joined Catalans, in fact he has been bang average which is far from the player he is/could be, I would suggest more of a extended holiday for him.

Please ignore the wakefield fans. They dont like threads like this because they would never be able to sign someone of his quality
