| So apparently the RFL has rlnew quota rulesrl, in a bid to discuss the rules as they apply to the league/sport and not to be accused of being 'jealous of Hull KR signing Mason' I've opened up a new thread.
So essentially we've gone back to the old system? 5 quota players, as many Kolpak as you want? Why? Surely this is a step backwards? The one reason I can think of is that they can't legally uphold this ruling? However someone on the Hull forum suggested the non-fed rules were copied from what soccer clubs had been doing?
Finally, does that now mean that Hull only have 2 quota players and can bring in 3 more Aussies? If so what a joke, our club has invested in English youth both in the form of buying/retaining players (Sharp, Westerman and Tickle) and also bringing youth through (Houghton and Lynne).

It would appear so. My question to you sir, is if Hull now went on to sign Greg Inglis, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater, would you still consider it a joke.

Yes. Even though they'd improve the competition I'd still think been able to have 10 non-English players is a joke.

| Clubs only allowed 5 Non-feds. If you have 4 Quota players club cans only have 1 Non-fed. The issue is the exemptions As the players who are exempt retire then that the figure will come down.

I'm not so sure of the rules but I'm pretty sure that this is incorrect.

Kolpacks, like Aussie’s and Kiwi with EU passports, count as non-feds, apart from the ones who were playing in SL before the new regulations came into effect. The clubs are limited to 5, it says so in the article you linked.

| Dosn't matter what "new " rules the RFL bring in the clubs will bend over backwards to get round them.
They have before and will continue to do so until the RFL grow a pair and kick the clubs in theirs!!!

| How I understood it was that you could have a max of 5 non-fed trained players in your squad and a max of 5 quota players.
Now some of those players will be non-fed trained and count on the quota like Blake Green
Some will be non-fed trained and NOT count on the quota like Wille Mason (due to his Tongan passport getting him off the quota but not off the non-fed trained list)
And some will not count as either non-fed trained or on the quota like Mick Vella (due to being contracted to Hull KR for the 2008 season so gets off non-fed trained and has been here 3 years so gets off quota)
The 2 rules, non-federation trained (brought in 200icon_cool.gif and overseas quota (been around for ages) run in conjunction with each other. That's how I understood it anyway

| I thought clubs were allowed only 5 Non-federation players which included Quota players so you can't have more than 5 anyway? It can't be 5 Quota players PLUS 5 Quotas, that would be a huge step back.
But I'm confused as to the Mason case, if you can only have 5 what does it matter whether he's got a Tongan passport and counts as Quota or not, he's Non-Fed trained anyway, surely he's not exempt from that as he's only just coing over? I presume the reason HKR currently have more than 5 is because of the players who they already had before the rules coming in being exempt. (the "Stanley Gene loophole"icon_wink.gif.

| Autralians/Kiwis here before 2008 are classed as Federation trained. Any that arrive after that are classed as non-fed. You have two lists 1)Quota 2)Non fed. You are allowed 5 of each...HOWEVER if all five of your quota players arrived after 2008 they are classed as your 5 quota players AND they also fill up your non fed trained list.
So if you have 5 aussies that were playing here prior to 2008 you can also have 5 aussies with passports from EU countries or Kolpak countries, so you can have 10 aussies/kiwis in your side. What a joke the RFL are

Right, so excluding the players who have exemptions because they were here before 2008, you can only have 5 "overseas" players whether it be Quota or Non-Fed? Surely you cannot have 5 quotas as well as 5 Non-feds (who have signed after 200icon_cool.gif? I guess it's just a case of waiting for those who were here before 2008 to retire for the rules to take effect.

| So with McGoldrick being "American", Youngquest being "Swedish" (or something similar I've read before ) and Isa being a south sea islander, does that mean Cas only have Chase & Widders on the quota?

| All of this is in aid of the RLF's decision to scrap the Test match against the French mid season in favour of a Test match against SLE based foriegn player.
Now how good would the Foriegn squad be if the entire team was only made up of player who play for the W. Crusaders?

| I personally think that we should do away with quotas and replace them with salary cap exemptions for players who've come through a club's academy.
The only way to truly encourage clubs to develop their own players is a financial incentive. At the moment, an overseas player aged 25 is a better option for a club to sign than a young lad of 17 who only has potential. But if you develop conditions where the young lad is a financially more sensible option then you'll have clubs self regulate the signing of overseas players.

It would appear the op is correct and the rfl have changed the quota rules, again.
www.thisishullandeastriding.co.u ... ticle.html
This bit would make me laugh if it wasn't so sad.
Asked by the Mail whether this could allow teams to potentially sign 10 overseas stars, the RFL today admitted it could.
"With a limit of 5 on each list (Quota and Non Fed) a club could, although very unlikely, have 10 ‘overseas’ players."
Very unlikely? Give me strength!
