| This entrenches the councils view that its nothing to do with them... where the 106 agreement process requires the local authority to execute the findings!!!

| Finally an article in the press that tells the real story.
We have a local authority which is not only being unhelpful but, is actually failing to carry out it's legal obligations.

| Not read much into this, ashamed to admit I'd turned a blind eye to 'yet another' situation at Wakefield. But, having read this article, its a shame that the council seem to be letting the club and the fans down. Hoping for one last trip to Belle Vue in the middle 8s, the first game of the season this year was the most pleasant experience I've had at the ground (weather wise!), before continuing to watch the club somewhere else next year.

| "I don’t believe there’s a club that can find the cost of a new stadium out of its own funding stream. You either need a spectacularly wealthy backer or a council that can achieve what several have for their clubs. All the new rugby league stadiums in the M62 corridor have been built by the council 100 per cent"
While it sounds like the developer has pulled a fast one to get permission to build on green belt land, I don't agree with the statement above. Didn't Warrington build and own their own stadium? I know Leeds own their own stadium, while it's not a new stadium, one stand is a new build, with two new stands to be built in the next couple of years.
If Wakefield can't afford a stadium that's fit for Super League, they can't afford to be in Super League and need to drop down to the Championship. At a time of cuts to councils funding and services they provide, demanding the council build them a stadium doesn't wash with me. Especially when there are two clubs in Wakefield both demanding the council build them a stadium but not willing to share, as Wigan, Huddersfield and Hull all do.

You've clearly understood the issue, not.
The Community Stadium was to be built by the developer as part of the broader scheme which allowed them to develop the site.
Wakefield are not asking for funding from the Council, only that WMDC enforce the agreement.

Fatcually incorrect - the Stadium Trust is simply asking the Council to enforce the s106 agreement with the Developer, which required them to provide a Community Stadium in return for 230 acres of land being taken out of green belt.
Neither Wakefield or Cas are demanding that the Council do anything other than act on their statutory duty as the Planning Authority.

| In fairness whilst he may be wrong on some of the details there is element of truth in the principle of what he is saying.
We can't look at the last two or three years in isolation. The situation Wakefield and Cas find themselves in has been decades in the making. Whilst I have every sympathy with them over the council not enforcing those clauses, we only got to this position because of years of overspending leading to grounds being mortgaged, seized, upkeep being a low priority, improvements being of no priority.
We aren't in a position to turn it down if we can get free stadiums built But as a sport we also can't just keep holding in and hoping for it.

For an articulate poster... I'm stunned at the ignorance shown in this post... if you can't be bothered to research the subject and post on factual evidence rather than rhetoric and daydream ... then don't post!!!
What doesn't wash with me are posters who fail to inform themselves before posting!

| No coincidence that both Wakefield and Castleford have always struggled to find local funding/support for a stadium. Both under the same umbrella of the inept WMDC

| with 2 clubs situated so close together both in need of new facilities, it makes sense to build 1 stadium for both to share. why the hell can't this be arranged?

| Burnley, Bournemouth and Everton have e grounds still they are in the PL on merit.
As for groundsharing, Wigan/Leigh don't, Hull/Hull KR don't, why should Wakey/Cas?

They have rubbish grounds by PL standards, but they're still relatively decent grounds. Everton are getting a new ground anyway.

| Leigh had a stadium and weren't looking to move when the DW was built. It only makes sense because they're so close and after building a stadium at the same time.
