Don't hold your breath.
Rugby League is a localised form of Rugby that punches above its weight in terms of "passing interest" but has never had the leadership nor the desire (it would seem) to press ahead and try and get a proper national identity which makes people WANT TO SEE IT.
First point of order should be to sort out the game at home before creating imaginary leagues that will do nothing other than give aging Aussies somewhere else to go. '"
League is of course localised and that is down to it's history. Many years ago the breakaway north rejected union and tried to expand countrywide. In the end Rugby Union held firm so that was that and that the two games "heartlands" (ours the M62, Unions the rest of Great Britain and ireland) were set in stone...
The sensible policy is clearly survival, how some people can think Eric Perez was going to deliver a professional Trans-European Rugby League I never knew? Yet so many believed it and here we have him again getting people all excited about a North American pro-league. But as always the fantasists lapped it up.
If there was the endless $$Millions awaiting the formation of a professional league in North America with untold riches open to players here, don't these fantasists realise it would destroy the game here? The same fantasists are now turning to the idea Toulouse can enter Superleague next year and be followed by two more French clubs to make a European league.
The bottom line was always that there is in reality only one solid fact. And that is SKY are the only source of big money and that comes from English RL Fans paying to watch English clubs. Kill that and you kill off the game in the northern Hemisphere........
