State schools?

That was exactly my experience. I went to a large State run comprehensive in East Leeds. Unsurprisingly, of the kids that liked rugby 99.9% of them were League fans. And yet the teaching staff were involved in Roundhegians RUFC so only allowed Union to be played. They also ran regular trips to Union games. Despite being in RL heartlands, and with a captive audience exclusively interested in League, they somehow got away with forcing everyone to play and watch Union. Just bizarre.

I have heard some things similar to this.

How do you know it would always be full of "English" people. I would have selected R Grace last yr, Ben Flower would have had a run with me a few yrs ago. And if you want to go down that route, I doubt many of the "England" side will have as much English DNA in them as you think. Piers Morgan apparently has 0% English DNA in him, whatever English DNA is, English ppl are from Denmark and Germany, Western Brits are the true Brits, in particular the Welsh. Though I'd say we're all Caucasian.

What a bizarre argument ??
If someone is born in England (or wherever) they should be able to represent that country in their given sport.
How far exactly do you want "us" to go back, it's bad enough when a sole grandparent is used to qualify for a different nation, never mind going back decades or, centuries.
It really ought to be simple - if you are born in a particular country, that should be the country and only country that you can represent.

As for Regan Grace and Flower, should they play so that it is no longer an England side under a GB moniker or should they have to be the best option in their respective positions.
Both are good players, although Flower is getting on a bit but, we have better options in both positions

Anyway, the last GB tour was just embarrassing so, we're probably better off sticking with England plus, the other contrived home nations.

Maybe as a sport, if we had given Crusaders a bit more support (financially), they may have been a half decent side by now.

Grace would be in my 24 man squad this year if GB were playing. Makinson and Johnstone starting on the wings. Flower wouldn't be in now, no, obviously. The UK is the country. Wales is not a country, and where does England really start, i know where it is officially, but England is not as big as it shows on a map.

For a few years I went to a high school in the south of Warrington. It was exactly as you describe. Strictly Rugby Union. The teachers / coaches were from out of the area. There wasn’t a single player in the team who played rugby union away from school, but plenty who played league. Some would call it indoctrination.

When I lived in Kent, Medway area and went to high school there. We played Union but coming from up North and supporting Wigan, League was a dirty, almost vulgar word.

How did they force you to watch union?

And a generation on, in recent years same happened to my lad and his mates. Our local school was full of RL fans but again only Rugby Union at school. Despite this scouts from Bradford Bulls academy picked up a talented lad anyway.

Had the school played league maybe other lads could have being able to develop towards a paid League career with a number of West Yorkshire clubs. For goodness sake school is about developing skills and going out into the community to get paid for those skills. When this is sports based these lads can become local heroes as rugby league players.

Look at places like Leeds and Bradford. In the south of these cities working class areas throw up some real superstars, but few great players come from North Leeds and North Bradford where they are made to play Union.......
