We could end up with Saints, Warrington, Catalan who knows it's a random draw! I still think that is better then 5 teams walking into the quarters without even playing a game.

It's a maximum of 4, with a further bye in the following round.

It's likely that it's not even a discussion point - cup competitions usually have very clear rules on what happens in the event of a club not fulfilling a fixture - I haven't looked them up, but I expect byes...unless there's an appetite to reinstate the teams that lost in the previous round.

But that includes lower league clubs too, so not an elegant solution.

With the advent of the TW withdrawal & the yearly falling attendance & interest I imagine that future sponsors of the C.C will be much harder to come by.

I think I was trying to say that Champ teams that could not play would give the game away and opportunity gets a bye.

Yes some clubs will effectively get a bye into the next round but, a re-draw will screw up the numbers anyway and cock up the next round.
It's a cup comp and it just the luck of the draw.

For me I would give the 4 sl teams left that drew lower league opposition byes then the 6 remaining sl teams who were drawn against each other put into another draw..2 get byes..other 4 get to play out who joins the remaining 6

I don’t see the point in running the CC this year to be honest. Scrap it and just run SL and bring it all back in 2021, it’s becoming a farce.

Mainly sponsorship money I assume. Even without fans the RFL could probably collect all of the sponsorship cash from Coral etc. Maybe also TV money from BBC.
