| Thank you for the kind offer. I’d like to review something that has a direct impact on every Rugby League fan’s lives, and a good cross-section of society as a whole. A topic that everyone from Refuse collector to Queen will have an opinion on. The review is of the societal impact, public perception and available evidence surrounding whether Chris Joynt perpetrated a voluntary tackle in contravention of the laws of the game in the 2002 Superleague Grand Final.
The case
On 79 minutes and 50 seconds of the 2002 Grand Final, St Helens hold a narrow 19-18 lead over the Bradford Bulls. Chris Joynt takes the ball as first receiver and crosses 9 metres to his left when he is intercepted by Paul Deacon and Lee Gilmour. At that point he dives to the floor before contact is made with any Bradford player.
At the time of the incident, the official position of the Rugby Football League (RFL) was: "A player in possession shall not deliberately and unnecessarily allow himself to be tackled by voluntarily falling to the ground when not held by an opponent.". Indeed the crime is almost universally regarded as 'malum in se'.
Writing in the Guardian, Andy Wilson eruditely summed up common opinion when he stated "There can never have been a more blatant voluntary tackle than the way the Saints captain Chris Joynt went to ground on the penultimate play of the game". This widely held viewpoint was further reinforced on visitmanchester's list of greatest sporting events to be held in the city. This included the 2002 Grand Final, and their assessment is that "The event is even enshrined in St Helens captain Chris Joynt appeared to take a voluntary tackle with just seven seconds left on the clock to run out the game. The decision should have been a penalty against Joynt, which would have most likely resulted in Bradford taking the victory"
But perhaps the most damning statement came from a 42 year old Civil Servant* who stated "This was a dark day for this sport and indeed for society as a whole. A historical injustice that sent ripples of evil cascading around the world, rocking the fabric of all that is held to be right and true. No one would sleep as soundly in their beds afterwards, crops failed in the years to follow, and shadows in the corners of our minds seemed somehow darker and more pervasive. Chris Joynt is to all intents and purposes Satan".
Reparations
The prima facie evidence points to an animus nocendi wrongdoing perpetrated by Chris Joynt for which the notion of “restorative justice” might be deemed to be an appropriate salve. The most apt form of reparation would be toward the club that was disadvantaged. The author proposes that Chris Joynt now puts plans in place to single-handedly renovate Odsal to meet current standards of safety and comfort.
*Competing interest declaration - the 42 year old Civil Servant and the author occupy the same body.

| Quote: SouthStander.com "I was surprised by Ready Player One, not usually my kind of thing but very enjoyable. Also agree on Picard, very good for the most part but some elements a little drawn out.
Finished Ozark season three now. What a final scene!
Watched Jo Jo Rabbit last night and not 100% sure. Good film, well made, well produced but didn’t sit quite right. Laughter and tears in almost equal measure while poking fun at fascism, what’s not to like? I understand what it was trying to do, and to say, but not sure it hit home. Very quirky, wont be for everyone, worth persevering with though.'"
Watched Jo Jo Rabbit twice now, and I agree, I still don't quite get it.
Found Spaceballs on a "rbp" channel, still funny! "Use the Schwartz!"

| Hunters - Amazon Prime.
The premise is very good until episode 4, then the plot twists become obvious (well, they did to me). All in all very well put together but, like Picard, strangely contorted to be less than the sum of it's parts by the end. A massive miss from Amazon to go "Marvelistic" with something that could have been genuinely interesting. They are doing a second series, which I imagine will be the last (it should be), unless they indulge in some Dallas-esque shower/dream sequence to bring cast members back.

| Devils Advocate - have flicked past this so many times, for some reason I watched it today, and what a film! I wouldn't describe it as a horror, just very strange.

| Safe - Netflix
Twist a minute binge fest which saw us watch all 8 episodes over two nights. Once you get over Michael C Hall’s slightly awkward British middle-class accent it a good watch. Filmed in parts of the world I know; Manchester, Salford and Liverpool, it canteras along at a good place. Cliff-hangers at the end of almost every episode and had me unable to spot the ‘killer’ until midway through the penultimate episode. Well worth a watch. A good 8/10.
Oh, but you’ll have to turn a blind eye to some of the technical mistakes (IT).

eurovision-the story of fire saga
.......downright silly, bad accents, ott singers/songs but strangely addictive...if you suffer and enjoy eurovision every year you will love it...if you dont...you will hate it.....the songs are very good, catchy and very eurovision, plenty of cameos from past winners....but its the final song after the event that will get you singing and demanding it to be played in pubs once they re-open! PLAY JAJA Ding Dong!!!
The Order
completed season one..quite surprised how good the first series was..10 episodes completed over 2 days. A magic cult set in a us college is infiltrated by a young student who wants to find out how his mother died....students start being picked off one by one who are pledges wanting to join The Order...about to start season 2 so here's hoping its as good as the first.
Hollywood
Excellent....be aware lots of sex, sexual references, racism and homophobia and exploitation....but it is set in the Golden Age of Hollywood films. only problem was it wasn't long enough...8 episodes.
Salvation
watched both series..then found out it got cancelled so left on a what happens next......
Asteroid discovered to be heading to earth by a student, teams up with a multi millionaire who has built an arc style space ship (just in case), us government knows and bumps off anyone who tries to tell....a US coup by the presidents staff and army ...russian threatens war with the US...but both are being held to ransom by a cyber terrorist group....first season was good...second seemed to drag on through the middle but picked up towards the end.
The Floor Is Lava
idea is good and fun....gave up after 2 episodes due to the over the top egotistical american contestants who felt the need to shout louder each time they spoke to each other.
Currently into week 14 of shielding so just a few programmes i've got round to watch atm
