Quote nottinghamtiger="nottinghamtiger"If they were over in 2018, surely they are over in 2019?
We know that they signed Merrin and Hurrell as marquee players, so they will have counted as 150k each on the cap. Plus Lolohea who wouldn’t have been cheap.
Did they really lose 300k+ worth of players between 2018 and 2019?'"
To be fair we lost a lot of players 2018-19. Part of our problem has been turnover.
Out from 2018 squad:
Ryan Hall
Joel Moon
Brett Delaney
Anthony Mullally
Mitch Garbutt
Jimmy Keinhorst
Keith Galloway
Jack Ormondroyd
Jordan Lilley
Josh Walters
In 2019:
Tui Lolohea
Konrad Hurrell
Trent Merrin
Wellington Albert
Rhys Martin - mid season
Kallum Watkins - out mid season
I think it’d be fair to say the Parcell/Lunt and Lolohea/Lui swaps probably neutral in terms of the cap.
We did loan Albert for the last part of the season - not sure how that affects the cap.
Ablett didn’t play all season and we studiously avoided playing Golding all year which would lead me to believe that that was a cap related decision.
Assuming JJB and Ablett on reduced contracts and the loss of some big wages in Hall, Moon & Watkins mid season along with some decent wages in Garbutt & Mullally could probably account for the incoming players.
It’s pretty certain we’re tight on the cap both from the manoeuvrings to free up cap space and from what’s been admitted by Sinfield.
Looks like some decisions on contracts a few years ago have come back to bite us now with some average squad players on too high wages.
