Quote: Jake the Peg "Do you think a TV company would care about a few hundred leeds fans cancelling their subscriptions? Would any non leeds supporter cancel their subscriptions? leeds have been dire for 3 of the last 4 seasons so no one is subscribing to SKY to watch them, nor are sponsors flocking to the sport because of them.
SKY will be negotiating a 3-5 year deal and leeds not being in SL or one of those will have no effect whatsoever.
bradford were a similar sized club to leeds and them going down has had no effect whatsoever on the SKY contract.
It's hilarious that leeds fans are now fabricating this scenario where everything will be worse without them now they're in danger of the drop'"
Who said anything about cancelling subscriptions? No I doubt you’d see many at all cancelling if Leeds went down but we’re talking about viewing figures. If Leeds aren’t in SL next season then the total number of viewers for all the games combined over the course of the year will be significantly down compared to this year, you only have to look at how much we’ve been shown on Sky this year still including against HKR instead of a Saints/Wigan Derby to see that.
If Leeds go down they may well be straight back up but we don’t know or can’t promise Sky that and we need them more then they need us so any idea Sky will take the approach “oh I’m sure it’ll be fine and they’ll be back next year” is fanciful.
A number of times I’ve heard the “we survived Bradford going down”.... yes SL has “survived it” but we certainly haven’t thrived since then and we’d be in a much stronger position with the Bradford of 15-20 years. Plus losing one is one thing, losing a 2nd big club is another.
Whilst you can keep with the hyperbole claiming that Leeds fans are saying SL will be doomed without us....no you won’t be doomed nor will it destroy SL, but it will cause a hit to tv and sponsorship which is never ideal especially for a sport that needs to be taking forward steps.
