Quote PopTart="PopTart"Just an observation Printer but the reason this keeps happening is that you are trivialising a subject that many people have extremely strong feelings about. You must surely recognise that?
The reasons behind the Sun ban are incredibly important to people in Liverpool and people who witnessed the incidents on tv at the time, whether you like it or not. Liverpool football club have made a decision to back the opinions of the people of Liverpool and I personally support them doing that too.
The reason the ban was imposed so much later than the original newspaper articles is because it took that long to go through courts and once proven the fans and the families involved made their opinions public, which the owner agreed with and imposed the ban.
Whether a mistake has been made in communication to or from the rugby league, or whether Liverpool benefit in any other way does not detract from the reason it was put in place and the sentiment behind it.
You have every right to back the Sun and it's opinions it posted about the Liverpool fans on that day if you wish, but it has been established through courts that the claims were false. But if you do choose to do that, you have to be ready for a backlash of opinion that not only doesn't agree with you but is offended by the way you post about it. That is also their right and that is what you are seeing on this board in my opinion.'"
I’m not trivialising nor backing The Sun over what they did in 1989. I’m talking about the situation here in 2019.
I’ve asked or pointed out some fair questions/facts that people have ignored to instead reply with an insult or that the only view we should have on this is “boo hiss The Sun they’re awful” and if you agree with us you have no morals....just like so many issues today if you disagree with those who claim to be the most tolerant, sympathic, good moral compass people.
- why didn’t Liverpool make it 100% clear before we agreed to go to Anfield, the onus is on them as it’s their ground and their rule.
- if people on here stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Liverpool then why don’t they slag off and boycott Sky too as some Liverpudlians do boycott all Murdoch related businesses.
- why do Liverpool still take their share of money that The Sun pay for their Goals App clip service?
- why have Liverpool past players happily picked up a pay check from Murdoch by appearing on Sky over the years?
If we are still judging everybody at The Sun for the mistakes of those who went before them then does the same apply to Liverpool fans who were to blame for the Heysel disaster a few years prior to Hillsborough. The aftermath of saw all English teams banned from Europe for 5 years and even though Liverpool got a longer ban originally they appealed and only had to miss one extra season compared to clubs who weren’t even involved in the accident. The Heysel disaster was just as much if not more responsible for people’s opinions of Liverpool fans wrt to Hillsborough than The Sun but Liverpool try and brush Heysel under the carpet and like to act like that one didn’t happen because on that occasion they were guilty.
