Quote P-J="P-J"Poor, biased commentator who never bothered to learn the rules of the game.
I'd say he won't be missed, but as RL is an afterthought for SKY these days (fantastic job on securing that new TV contract btw), they won't spend any money on finding a competent replacement.'"
Don’t be daft. He wasn’t a poor commentator nor was he biased other than possibly toward Lee Briers.
He was a top commentator that more often than not added to the drama and excitement of games rather than detracted from it.
The last few years have been frustrating but as others have said that’s because there’s too many people in there all chipping in every 5 mins. The 2 man formula works. They should stick to it.
Fortunately Neville Smith is going too. I’m sure he contributed in the past but recently you have to lay the blame at his door for the poor production from Sky. I think we all probably agree it’s become too much like a bunch of mates at the pub and that has to be coming from the producer. That atmosphere has been evident for years even to the point of them doing a shout out for 1 of the Sky cameramen during play in the Grand Final a couple of years ago. I’ve never seen anything like that in any other sport on TV and certainly not for that sports showpiece occasion. Again today with Eddie’s departure it was unprofessional and too much like a mates retirement party. The game should have been the priority but it wasn’t. Eddie was. And as much as I like Eddie his retirement should have been dealt with solely post-match. Not the constant references to him throughout the game.
So I’m sad that Eddie is leaving because I think he’s a still good commentator in the right environment but I’m delighted that Neville Smith is going. Hopefully a new person at the helm will give it a much needed boost of professionalism.
