Quote Shifty Cat="Shifty Cat"Bit of an overreaction hey. It seems I wasn't the only one not to know the history of that name - well, you live & learn but you'd have thought I'd had had some malicious dig at your club with that response.'"
Sorry nothing personal intended, however....
I don't think it's an over reaction when someone says words to the effect of, "We thought it would be a good marketing gimmick to go down to Old Trafford and borrow their name". A name bestowed on us by the French 85 years ago. The team was managed by the legendary "Lancelot Beaumont Todd" and had players like Original hall of famer "Augustus John Ferdinand Risman" immortalised in the statue at Wembley stadium.
We WERE a massive successful club with yes large crowds and plenty of silverware. During the 1930s Salford won three League Championships, five Lancashire League Championships, four Lancashire Cups, The 1938 Challenge Cup over Barrow whilst losing the final the following year to Halifax.
I guess History doesn't mean too much these days and the comments on here like "what do Salford bring to Super League" Irks when a club has a real history. Don't get me wrong I get it to some extent it hurts it's been over forty years since our successful team of the 70's and this year it's 50 years since we last visited Wembley, who can blame the Salford public for not bothering ? it also doesn't help being where we are with a couple of the worlds premier football teams on our doorstep, it's a hard sell. What do we have to look forward to this season ??? I don't know I doubt we will get to Wembley or Old Trafford but whilst I've still got a screw loose and Salford still have a pulse I'll be there with my kids.
