You're right but, it's all about the money these days.
Could you imagine any of the greats from yesteryear being happy to "swap nations".
For me, ANY player that has played international sport at ANY level should only ever represent that nation but, this would be far too sensible for the sports administrators and we're still in a position where we want to cobble together stronger national sides for stuff like the world cup and without some crossover, the world cup would need to reduce to 5 or 6 nations.
