"The Golden Generation finally has its Golden Fleece! They have Wembley Cup Final winners medals to add to their collection." 23/08/2014:

Shouldn’t be allowed to play for England/GB just for using the word “stoked”

For me this sort of thing is devaluing international sport, but I recognise that it happens in all sports and that all countries are doing it. Therefore, if he ended up playing for England, I'd accept it and welcome him and support him like I would any other player.

I really don't like it though and I think that all sports should tighten up the rules on this sort of thing. Until that happens, however, I think England should take advantage just like everyone else does.

You're right but, it's all about the money these days.
Could you imagine any of the greats from yesteryear being happy to "swap nations".

For me, ANY player that has played international sport at ANY level should only ever represent that nation but, this would be far too sensible for the sports administrators and we're still in a position where we want to cobble together stronger national sides for stuff like the world cup and without some crossover, the world cup would need to reduce to 5 or 6 nations.

as sad as it sounds, but i 100% agree with you wrencat1873. indeed, it is all about money these days and indeed, the player should represent that nation only, but let's face it. this won't happen. at least i've lost my hope. rlhttps

The difference is, in the 50s and 60s, when those players who would never switch countries played, no one ever left their own country.

Now you have people emigrating to different countries which gives them dual citizenship. They have a choice the others just didn't have.

I'm born and raised in Yorkshire to English parents and am always available to represent England and only England.
If my dad was Australian or German, I might have a different opinion. Your parents form a lot of your values.
